Hola Presidente,

I'm so sorry that this is so long in coming! I'm sending this just to thank you for everything

you and Hermana Chacon have done for me (do for me). I'd have written this sooner, but to

be honest it makes me pretty emotional and I really wasn't ready for that til now. I'm so so

grateful for you and your family and the sacrifices you make for us as missionaries.

Hello President,

Thanks for taking the time to read all of these letters! I´m doing great here. I absolutely love

my companion and she is super patient, fun, kind, and a great teacher, to me and to our

amigos. Everything is going well. I´ve already learned a lot from her about the culture and

about Spanish. We actually talk all of the time, so that´s been a blessing. The elders in my

district are also really great, and have been very considerate. For example, today they

wanted to go with us to lunch to try some sort of fish soup. I wasn´t sure about that because

my stomach hasn´t been super happy lately, so they decided we can go to pizza instead.

The members in the ward have also been great. The Spanish has been frustrating, but I

understand that it can only come with time, and the worst thing that happens is that people

laugh a little, so it´s okay. Besides the language and being assaulted by new experiences

that are totally outside my comfort zone every ten seconds, all is well! I´m thrilled to be here

and I love our area. On only my second day here, we contacted two new investigators. It

was awesome. One lady totally chased us down in the street, so we set an appointment and

went and visited her. She was so awestruck by the Book of Mormon, and just said, how did I

not know that this existed? The other was a man named Jaime. He is older, and he was

standing in a little gated parlor and called us out of the rain. He was happy to meet us until

we showed him our tags. He doesn´t like Mormons and he proceeded to tell us all about

Confidential - For Church Use Only

what we believe. Which of course was a bunch of nonsense. We talked for a long while, and

by the end, we´d committed him to reading 3 Nephi 11, and we will be back to visit him this

week. I´m not sure exactly how these letters are supposed to go, but thank you for your time

and the incredible sacrifice you and your kind family make everyday for us missionaries.

Anyways, I´m doing well and so is my companion, and I love being a missionary. The Spirit

has been ever present and I know the Lord is guiding us each day.

Sincerely, Hermana Miller

Confidential - For Church Use Only

extraordinarios.

• Diciembre 10: Zonas Esmeraldas, Quinindé, Imbaya y Ofelia

• Diciembre 11: Zonas Imbabura, Otavalo y Calderón

• Diciembre 12: Zonas Quito, Oriente e Ipiales

Asignaciones

Hola President,

I´ve made it through my second week, and I still am loving this. Hermana Anibarro is the

best companion I could have ever asked for, she´s fun and kind, and patient and a wonderful

teacher. I´d like to be a missionary just like her one day. Thank you for making us

companions. I love the ward here and the people, they´ve been feeding us for every single

almuerzo and are keeping us both really full! They´re so kind, we´ve already had invitations

for Christmas, and even one for Thanksgiving, which is so sweet because they don´t

celebrate that here obviously. We had Interviews of ministration this week. I had mine with

Hermana Brast. She is awesome, and it was wonderful to talk with her, and I got lots of great

advice for ways I can be more effective and ideas for handling the things that come with

being a new missionary. We´ve been working hard tracting. I´ve found that it is my favorite

thing to do as a missionary. I love to have an excuse to go up and introduce myself to

perfect strangers and share our message, it´s a blast. We want to contact every part of our

area in the next ten weeks, and not spare a door. So we looked in our area book for our

map, and it was kind of pathetic, so we´ve created a much better one using google maps,

and we made a copy we can carry with us. We´re going to contact every street and keep

track, that way we don´t waste our time rewalking the same streets and places. I´m really

excited about it, and I think this will help us hone in on our goal to contact 20 people per day.

We´ve done it once, and we´re getting closer to doing it often. I´ve learned so much in these

last two weeks that it´s crazy, and I´m in love with Ibarra and the people here, it´s incredible

place to be. Thanks for your time President.

Sincerely, Hermana Miller

Hola Presidente,

It was another good week. I had the opportunity to challenge one of our investigators to be

baptized. She did not say yes, but neither did she say no! So we have given here one of the

plans for happiness that can give her the fourteenth of december as a goal date for baptism.

I also had a cool experience yesterday on the bus on the way back from a zone meeting. I

got a seat next to a girl. I had the impression that I should talk to her, but I really did not want

to! I can understand more than I can speak and I did not have my companion with me to

help. But I then had the thought, What if I have orchestrated this moment so that you can sit

next to this girl on this bus that you might be the means whereby she can hear of my

restored gospel and you choose not to say anything! Ouch! So I took a deep breath and

opened my mouth, and it was awesome. My Spanish still was not pretty, but she

understood, and we quickly became friends. She gave me her address and phone number

and we will soon be going to visit her and her family of five, who have never heard of our

church and do not attend a church of their own. It was a real confidence boosting experience

for me. They understand me! Haha. Anyway, it was a good week, and I am learning so

much. Hope all is well with you and your family. Thank you for your time.

Extraordinarios y poderosos Élderes y Hermanas Misioneras,

Muy felices estamos para verles a todos estas semana. Hemos preparado muchas cosas

para ustedes y sé que ustedes se han preparado también y deseamos ver todo lo que han

practicado. Ustedes son en realidad EXTRAORDINARIOS. Le AMAMOS y son para

nosotros nuestros hijos misionales.

Hello President,

I wanted to begin by thanking you and Hermana Chacon and Esther for all that you did for

us as missionaries to make that Navidad conference so much fun! It was awesome, and I

know so much work was put in behind the scenes for that. Please tell them for me, I

appreciated that more than you can know, it feels much more like Christmas afterwards.

This week we had a baptism! The first for me in the mission. We went a few hours early to fill

up the font, and I was standing there and had an epiphany of sorts, and your words came

back to me from our interview. You are living your dream! And its so true. Here I am, a

missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Saints in Ecuador, and I could not be

happier. I was thrilled to be able to have Hermana Anibarro for another cambio and we are

doing great. Luckily for me my district is nearly the same too, which is fun. We will be getting

a greenie Elder, so that will be fun, and I will like not being the greenie anymore haha. This

week we extended two more date for baptisms and they both accepted, so it has really just

been an awesome week. They are both for the fourth of January. Thank you for our

interview President. It was fun to get to know you a little better. I needed to just talk too, and

so I appreciate your time. I feel really blessed to have you and your wife as my mission

president and wife for all of my mission and I look forward to getting to know you both even

better. Please tell Esther hello for me too, she´s awesome! Thank you for everything,

Abrir Nuestros Corazones para que haya lugar para El en el meson

Sent Date: Tuesday, December 24, 2019

Author: President Chacón

AMADOS Y EXTRAORDINARIOS ELDERES Y HERMANAS MISIONERAS,

para todo el pueblo”. “No temas”, nos recuerda el profeta Isaías, “porque yo estoy contigo;

Redentor, Nuestro Creador y gran Señor, nuestro amado Jesucristo. Las oraciones de sus

padres y familiares está con ustedes. Y nuestras oraciones lo estan siempre.

LES AMAMOS Y LOS TENEMOS MUY DENTRO DE NUESTROS CORAZONES.

Feliz Navidad, Presidente!

It was quite the week. We had a hard time getting ahold of anyone. They´re all traveling or

prefer that you don´t call them until January haha. But we are working hard and contacting

like crazy. I love the christ Child video, that´s been such a blessing to show in the homes of

members and nonmembers. The Spirit is always so strong when we watch that, it´s just

awesome. My companion and I are doing great, she´s a blessing. Our district too is

awesome and we have so much fun together. They´re really great. We especially love

getting to watch Toy Story 4 this morning, so thanks for that! We had a really cool activity

this week in our ward, where all the members and people we contacted donated clothes,

and then those in need came and heard a short program and then got clothes, we contacted

TONS of people. Our ward is so missionary minded, and I love that. So yeah, we are doing

well here in Ibarra and seeing blessings everyday. This is a sidenote, and I´m actually a little

embarrassed haha, but my mom sent three packages for my companion and I for Christmas

and I just wanted to check in and see if you may have seen any of those? Whenever they

get to us is just perfect, I just wanted to make sure they didn´t get lost on the company´s

end. They all have Olaf the snowman from Frozen on them. That´s so embarrassing, I tried

to tell her we didn´t need anything, but you know that means nothing to a determined mom!

So really, it isn´t urgent, I just wanted to check so I could tell her that they made it. Thank

you and Merry Christmas!

Invitación especial del presidente Nelson para este 2020

Sent Date: Tuesday, January 7, 2020

menos.

Hola Presidente,

I had a really good week. We had a baptism which was awesome, but we were also really

disappointed when the other girl with a baptism scheduled for the same day fell through. She

had some problems with her family, but we are still working with her. We fasted for her on

Sunday and we have faith that it will all work out! We got flu shots this morning, so that was

something outside the ordinary haha. One thing I´ve been thinking a lot about this week is

what you said to me during our interview about how sometimes we don´t understand the

purpose behind our mission until later, and that´s okay. I have a younger sister who is

preparing to turn in her papers right now and she´s been pretty nervous about a lot of things

and that was some counsel I was able to share with her that was inspired, and it´s really

blessed us both. thank you so much for taking the time to have those interviews, they are a

strenght to me. Hope everything is well with you and your family, happy new year!

I had a really wonderful week. I finally got to the point I think where happiness isn´t battling

homesickness. It´s awesome and such a relief. I had intercambios this last week with

Hermana Wood, she is one amazing missionary. I learned soo much from her, ways to

organize myself more productively, and how to have fun while working hard. I´m sad she´s

leaving and we´ll never have the chance to be companions. I also really enjoyed our zone

conference, especially when you started singing the lyrics to I´m singing in the rain! That

was awesome, and this week everytime someone slammed a door in our faces or was

particularly rude, my companion and I started singing that haha. I loved your point. If we look

outside and it is raining, yet we decide to go outside, why are we mad that we´re wet? By the

end of my mission I´m going to have a book of quotes from you President! Great week, and

the working is going really well here. My district is AMAZING. We have a blast. You and your

family are always in my prayers,

Hola Presidente!

Another week in Central 2, it is a great place to be. Things are going well, although I have to

admit I am more than a little nervous to be leaving the trainee stage! And to get a new

companion, but that is all part of the adventure right? We had a baptism planned for this

upcoming week, but the family of the woman just up and moved and so far we have not

been able to contact them, so that was sad. But other than that, the week was great, and we

contacted a ton of new interested people, the most we have ever had in one week and I

think several have real potential. Also we are getting exctied for the conference this

weekend. Elder Holland is going to shake my hand!! I think that is so awesome, and I am so

so excited to hear him speak to us. Thanks for all you do,

Hola Presidente,

This week was a big one for me. Between Elder Holland, verificaciones, and my first

experience with transfers in the mission, ir was exciting! I can´t believe I shook Elder

Holland´s hand! That was such a neat experience. I even was able to share with an

investigator some things that we learned on Saturday and that was really cool.

Verificaciones are over and I am official haha, so I am happy about that. Although I was sad

to see hermana Anibarro go yesterday, she´s going to be an amazing hermana leader. And

my new companion Hermana Maldonado is equally amazing, and I´m feeling súper blessed.

There´s some serious potential in our sector this month, and I´m really excited. We´ve

already got a district finding activity planned for this weekend, so hopefully that is

successful. Hope everything is going well for you, thanks again for your time,

Hola Presidente,

I had a good week, I am enjoying the change that comes with a new companion. I have

already learned a lot from her and we make a good team. We have already extended two

baptismal dates and they both accepted and we are so excited! We are working hard and

feeling happy. I have been blessed to have great health, haha my companion says that is

something I should write you about. This week I got the news that my best friend returned

home early from his mission in Texas. That was hard for me to take, but it has caused me to

reflect a lot. In good ways. Missions are hard, like Elder Holland said, but I have been

thinking all week about how he said man´s extremity is God´s opportunity. i love that.

Especially when as a missionary I think we are always feeling pushed to the limit physically,

emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. But that is where the growth is and so i am grateful.

Thank you for all you do.

Hola Presidente,

This week was hot, and I loved that! The weather here is awesome. However, something not

so awesome this week was that one of our fechas fell through, for a girl named Joselyn.

That was a bummer, but we are working with her to set a new date. We also had our

entrevista de administración, and that went well. Hermana Oloya is in Tulcan, and so they

came the night before to sleep at our house. We have intercambios this week, and that

means my companion and I will go spend two days in Tulcan, so I am a little nervous about

that, but I think it will also be fun. We are doing well as a companionship. This transfer has

already been a great learning experience for me in that way. I love my sector as usual and

the ward is incredible as always. This week I discovered that the bishop speaks fluent

English! He cheated me out of two and half transfers of never a word of English haha. But

he needs to speak with Americans every week as part of his pathway class and so every

other week I am going to have a meeting with him to discuss the missionary work in our

ward in English. Hope you have a great week, thank you for all you do,

Hola Presidente,

I had a very full week that included intercambios in Tulcan, so I got to spend the day with

Hermana Leonard, and that was AWESOME. We had some really cool experiences, and we

felt the spirit in the lessons so strongly. I think it was the funnest day of my mission thus far,

and I was really grateful because I had been nervous. And although I have loved my Latina

companions, it was fun to hang out with an American for the day. She must sure think I talk

a lot haha! We have one investigator with a baptismal date right now, his name is Wilson. He

is so sincere and I want this so badly for him, he just struggles to feel prepared for baptism.

We taught him the Word of Wisdom this week, and he threw out all of the coffee in his

house! And if that was neat enough, his whole family decided that they wouldn´t drink it

either (they won´t listen to us right now) and he couldn´t believe it. He even came to Stake

Conference. It´s refreshing to have somebody keep their commitments. :) Excited for our

interview on Thursday, thanks for taking the time to do that,

Presidente,

My companion and I are doing very well together, every week gets better and better, and as

we work together in the obra and in the living together parts of it, we´ve had a lot of fun and

learned so much from each other. Hermana Maldonado is so Christlike in her humility and

love and patience with me and everyone we know and teach. She´s been a blessing for me.

Our investigators are struggling to keep commitments so we´ve been focusing our study on

that and keeping our expectations high. Although our fechas have fallen through, they are

Confidential - For Church Use Only

continuing to progress and hopefully very soon we can reset some dates. I´ve come to really

love the people I am teaching here and my heart yearns to see them in that white baptismal

jumpsuit!!

I only marked this email as urgent because yesterday we had a sitdown with the zone

leaders in our District Council and I wanted you to be able to have this information quickly.

I´ve felt the need to address with you here some issues we´ve had as a district especially

now that the zone leaders have been involved.

As a missionary, and as a person I am not one who seeks out drama and so my heart is

heavy as I've tried to be prayerful about how to move forward. I have not talked with you

about this concern before now because I felt that since it was not initiated by me, I could just

ignore, downplay, redirect attention and it would go away. I didn't want to bother you with

anything that was unimportant or something that was becoming increasingly awkward at no

fault of my own.

I have made my sister leaders aware and my companion and we've been prayerful in the

past several weeks. I understand that my sole focus should be my missionary errand and

that's my hearts desire and so it hurts that there has been any implication that I have

thought, said or done anything contrary to that-- I have tried to not make an issue out of

unwanted attention from any elders specifically my district leader.

It began months ago and I felt uncomfortable with the joking and teasing- the familiarity in

general. As I shared my concern with my companion, we decided that I should just try to

distance myself, as to not encourage any unwanted attention and have less contact as to not

create a more casual interaction. My companion started answering phone calls so I wouldn't

have to.

I am honestly mortified to have drawn any negative attention. That is not representative of

my heart, my efforts, my obedience, my intention, or me. My district leader has chosen to

speak to zone leaders who did not speak to me or my companion or our sister leaders to find

out a little more information and see things from all sides, before responding.

I have been thinking about transfers coming up and just have tried to wait it out and distance

myself. I am grateful for my associations with fellow missionaries. We are in this great work

together. I want nothing more than to work along side each other and serve.

Please know that my heart is all in. I am striving to be exactly the kind of missionary the

Savior needs me to be. I have been obedient but have become somewhat of a target for

unwanted attention. That is completely unfamiliar territory to me and I want to run from it--

that's not my focus as a missionary. I realize this is complicated and I dislike that it even

needs to be addressed in an email, but my approach of trying to not let it escalate, or back

away from it has not been as effective as I'd hoped. I just want to be the Lord's hermana and

Confidential - For Church Use Only Page 23 of 100

move forward.

And you should also know that I am just fine. Really you don´t need to worry about me, I just

wanted you to have it come straight from me, because I don´t know what´s been said.

Please feel free to call me if there is anything I can help clarify. I think the dust should all

settle and luckily transfers are coming up at the end of the week. But I´ve already put it

behind me and hope that everyone else can do the same. I love the work and I love being

here in Ecuador! Thanks for everything,

Hermana Miller

Sisters and Elders,

It has been so wonderful to welcome 36 new missionaries to the Arizona Mesa Mission. We

are excited to have you come be part of our family, and we look forward to learning from you

and being strengthened by your faith and testimonies. We know that there are great things

ahead for the Arizona Mesa Mission.

I invite each of you to study the article written by President Russell M. Nelson in the April

Ensign. The article is titled “The Future of the Church: Preparing the World for the Savior’s

Second Coming.” In the article President Nelson states, “Spiritual security will always

depend upon how one lives, not where one lives. I promise that if we will do our best to

exercise faith in Jesus Christ and access the power of His Atonement through repentance,

we will have the knowledge and power of God to help us take the blessings of the restored

gospel of Jesus Christ to every nation, kindred, tongue, and people and to prepare the world

for the Second Coming of the Lord.” I add my testimony to that of President Nelson’s. If we

are striving to repent each day and become better, we will be given the power, even the

strength of the Lord, to take this gospel to all those who seek it. We will find the elect in

Mesa and throughout the world.

Sister Andrews and I would like to have more interaction with you than we have been able to

have in recent weeks. We will be calling to set up times when we can join you for

companionship study and to go over daily goals. We will also be doing weekly Zoom

meetings with the entire mission so that we can discuss the weekly devotionals from the

missionary department. Our first mission Zoom meeting will be this Saturday at 10 AM to

discuss the talk, “Bloom Where You’re Planted” that was given by Elder Gerrett W. Gong a

few weeks ago. At the start of the meeting a companionship will be selected to share their

thoughts on the devotional to begin the discussion. Each companionship please come

prepared to share. A few missionaries will also share miracles that they have seen in their

work. The meeting will be no longer than 40 minutes. We are also in the process of trying

to put together a mission wide general conference trivia game done through Zoom. It should

be a lot of fun.

I would also like to invite the new missionaries to set up a time during this week to teach the

Restoration to their own families. At the end of the lesson please invite your family members

to prayerfully go through their contacts to see to whom they can reach out and send an

uplifting message. For those missionaries that have already taught their families the

Restoration, please teach your families this week the Plan of Salvation and make the same

invitation for them to search their contacts. I know that this will be a special and edifying

experience for you and your families.

Thank you so much for all your faithful efforts. Sister Andrews and I love you, and you are

always in our prayers.

With love,

President Andrews

Hi President,

To be honest with you I'm actually pretty nervous about writing this email to you... I've never

received a response from a mission president before to my emails, and my companions tell

me you respond regularly. That's actually really cool, although I cannot fathom how you

possibly make the time to read and reply to so many emails each week! That's pretty

amazing. Thank you for all that you do. Being a mission president I imagine is pretty

overwhelming, let alone in this hectic time. I really appreciate all you and your sweet wife

have already done to make us each feel so welcome and looked after and needed here. I'm

really excited to get to know you both better, and am grateful to have the opportunity to

serve in your mission.

Things are going well. It's definitely a bigger adjustment than I was expecting, I suppose I

thought that because I'm from the United states that would make it all easier, but it's actually

been more difficult than I'd expected it to be. But my companions are really both so sweet

and thoughtful, and have really helped me feel loved and welcomed here.

Since our interview, there was one day Hermana Costanzi had a really hard time, but she

was able to break down and talk to Hermana Rusk and I about it, and we were able to sit

down together and strengthen each other and talk about the way she was feeling and how

we can help her. It was actually a really sweet bonding experience for us as a

companionship and since that she's been doing much better. She's a great missionary. And

I've been continually impressed by Hermana Rusk and the sweet, patient, Christlike, and

compassionate way she interacts with Hermana Costanzi. I feel really blessed to be their

companions. It's obvious that the quarantine situation has understandably taken a toll on

everyone and its manifested in different ways, but we are working through it and being

creative and I can see how the Lord is blessing us.

Speaking of which, my spiritual experience I'd already shared with you in our interview, but

nothing came even close to ot, so the highlight of the week was to have my sister Emma

open her mission call. She's only a year a week and a day younger than me, so we've

always been best friends and very close. She's always been a great kid, but a mission was

something that she really needed, and to know the Lord was able to show her in such a

miraculous way how personally He knows her was incredibly powerful and a testimony

builder for all my family. But mostly I am just so grateful that he'd do that for her.

Anyways, sorry this got so long, again, thank you for time and your service to us

missionaries and to the Lord!

Thank you so much for your letter. That is so great to hear that things are going well with

your companions and that Hermana Costanzi was able to open up to you. I know this is

quite a different experience for you, but I also know the Lord has called you here and will be

by your side. That is awesome to hear about your little sister's mission call. The blessings

for our service come in many ways. Thank you for all that you are doing.

Sisters and Elders,

It was so great to see you twice this week as we participated in the “Battle for the Cactus”

and in the mission-wide devotional as we shared mission miracles and discussed Elder

Gong’s counsel to us. Thank you for your preparation for both events. It is in that

preparation that true spiritual growth can take place. Please be sure to study the most

recent missionary devotional by Elder D. Todd Christofferson. It is a wonderful message for

us as missionaries. Just as a reminder, the Battle for the Cactus this week will be from

Preach My Gospel Chapter 4: Recognize the Spirit. I have also asked that in preparation for

Zone Conference that you think about how and when you have recognized the Spirit in your

life, or you might say, “How have you heard Him?”

We are excited regarding the recent lifting of some of the quarantine restrictions and that we

can now teach in person if the friend is comfortable. Please recognize what a blessing this

is from the Lord and express thanks to Him and our Heavenly Father for allowing the slowing

of this pandemic. In regards to visiting members, please be sure to check with your stake

president to receive his counsel on visiting stake members in their homes.

I would like to share with you a few more changes that will now be taking place due to the

lifting of some restrictions:

We will now have half-day exchanges starting at 11 AM and going until 9 PM. We will no

longer have the 1 hour fresh air walk exchanges.

We will discontinue the daily 30 minutes of viewing inspirational videos and the District

videos. However, if you have not finished all of the District videos please complete viewing

those.

On preparation day, you may meet as a district at a park and play games for 2 hours. The

direction from the missionary department at this time is that you should not play contact

sports including soccer, basketball or football. You also should not meet in churches as a

district on preparation day. The only districts that may combine are the two in the Snow

Zone since there are not more than 10 people.

All other current guidelines will remain in place. Hopefully, there will be more changes taking

place over the next few weeks. I will let you know when and if I receive more information.

Please continue to wear masks when in public buildings.

I apologize if this seems like an email of guidelines, but I need to remind you of a few other

things to be mindful of. We should not be viewing videos on Facebook or anywhere else that

are not associated with the Church. This will detract from the Spirit in your work. We also

should not be contacting missionaries or other people that are outside our districts. In your

apartments, the thermostat should not be set lower than 75 degrees.

Now after all those details, Sister Andrews and I are very excited to see your faces virtually

Confidential - For Church Use Only Page 27 of 100

this week in zone conference. I also hope each of you had a special experience this week

as you had the opportunity to teach your families. We love you, and you are always in our

prayers.

With love,

President Andrews

Sisters and Elders,

It was a wonderful experience to be with you today in zone conference. Let’s be sure to take

what we felt and learned into our work so that we can become instruments in the Lord’s

hands to bring about miracles. Today we received guidance from the Area Presidency and

the Missionary Department that will help us in this process.

We now can have in-person teaching appointments but only inside meetinghouses.

We can have the 2 hour district activity on preparation day at an outside park, but there can

not be contact sports, and it will be limited to 10 people or less.

You can have companionship study at an outside park. If people come up to you while

studying, you can speak with them but maintain social distancing.

District councils and district sacrament meetings will be limited to 10 people or less. Please

maintain social distancing.

We will only have the 1 hour fresh air walk exchanges.

We should not street contact.

We can not visit members in their homes.

Please wear masks in any public buildings.

I will let you know as other changes are approved. Thank you for continuing to serve with all

Hi President,

Hope everything's well with you and your family. I love my area! It has been really great to

get out of the house and to the houses of some of the people we are teaching.

It was a good week, although I have to admit that things have been a little difficult. The last

thing I want is to make the situation seem more dramatic than it is or sound like a tattle-tale,

but I'm a little worried about our companionship. I have been prayerful about how to show

love and patience, and at the same time try to figure out how to motivate. I know this

quarantine situation allows us an opportunity to be creative- we've been working on making

some short videos based on the principles from Preach My Gospel. The intent is to create

little segments that would be fun to share with children. I see it also as something that my

companions could get excited about. Most days that's working. I had an exchange with

Hermana Smith and was able to talk to her about it and she told me you are very much

aware of the struggles both Hermana Costanzi and Hermana Rusk have. Understandably,

quarantine has been really hard for them. But I just kind of wanted to let you know how

things are going from my perspective. Both of them are great missionaries, really they've

taught me so much already. Hermana Costanzi is so good at being conversational and

relating to everyone she meets. Hermana Rusk thrives on talking to people and making

people feel so loved. Really they're awesome. I don't even really know how to explain myself

very well, really I just want the best for them and for our area. But together it's a little rough

because we struggle to stay motivated to stick with our schedules for example, or get out of

bed to exercise, things of that nature. I think I'd put it like they enable each other to

rationalize the things they do and don't want to do, whether that's sleeping in a bit, or just

checking out for the day because they don't feel well. The Lord has been teaching me a lot

about patience and compassion, because before now I have never really understood what it

meant for someone to struggle with mental health, but now I can see that that can be really

debilitating for someone from the moment they wake up in the morning. However, I really do

feel like it's a hard environment to feel the spirit in and then even more so if we aren't exactly

obedient, and because of that I find myself a lot of times feeling frustrated. I have a hard

time knowing what's me being uptight and used to going about missionary work a certain

way, or really what is holding us back as a companionship. I think getting my original mission

assignment pulled out from under me so quickly has really made everyday feel so urgent to

me- Something that Hermana Smith told me was that she strongly believes that sometimes

we are called to help the strangers in that transfer, or sometimes it's to minister to our

companions. Really it has been a blessing to learn that lesson, and we are finding our way

day by day and doing the best we can together. I just wanted be open with you about it from

the start so that moving forward you can kind of know what's going on. But truly I'm grateful

we have been together, I know the Lord has been really teaching me and stretching me in

positive ways.

Confidential - For Church Use Only

Anyway, my spiritual experience this week is pretty small and seemingly insignificant to

anyone but me, but all the same I'd thought I'd share it with you still. So, there's a

flower/bush that I absolutely love, and I think my love for it is because my mom also loves it

a lot. It is called bougainvillea and it only grows in places that are warm year round, and my

mom's from California, so that's where she came to love it. Anyway, it was one of my favorite

things about Ecuador, its everywhere and everytime I saw it it made me smile and feel

Heavenly Father's love for me. Like Him letting me know He's aware of me. So I leave

Ecuador and find myself in Apache Junction, about the farthest from Ecuadorian scenery

and climate as you can get. And lo and behold just about the only flower I've seen in this

place is bougainvillea, and its everywhere! I could hardly believe it. If there's was a way to

make me feel known and remembered by God and like He knew where I'd be, that's the way

to do it. So I see it all the time and it's a constant reminder that He knows and loves me, and

I need that everyday.

Thanks for your time, and for all you do for us!

Thank you for your letter and for sharing with me your feelings about how things have been

going in the companionship. I am grateful for your desire to be the best missionary that you

can be and to fully take advantage of the opportunity that the Lord has given you. Maybe

the best thing to do is to have a companionship invetory and to start with a prayer. You

could share with them your feelings about the opportunity to be a missionary and your

testimony of the blessings that will come as you all do your best to be obedient and serve

diligently. You could set goals to get up on time each morning, exercise and then daily plan

as a companionship. Then you could set the example of sitting at the table and diligently do

your personal studies each day. They will see your example. Let me know your thoughts on

these things and also how it goes. Thank you for sharing that sweet tender mercy of seeing

those flowers in both missions. The Lord truly does know when we need that small reminder

that He is aware of us. Thank you for all that you are doing.

Sisters and Elders,

It was so wonderful to be with you for zone conference last week. Thank you for your

preparation for that meeting that allowed for the Spirit to be present. Please continue to act

on the invitations which were made. Look for what you can give up or change that is holding

you back from being able to soar and then act on it; help those you are teaching recognize

the Spirit in their lives as they are learning of the gospel; think about when the Spirit has

confirmed to you the truthfulness of a key principle of the gospel and take time to record that

experience; live worthy of the Spirit and follow the promptings when they come. As you act

on these invitations, your ability to discern and listen to the Spirit will increase.

We will have a mission devotional this Friday at 3 PM. Elder Dale Willis, our Area Seventy,

will be addressing us. We are grateful that he will be joining us, and we look forward to

hearing his counsel and testimony. This meeting will be a 40 minute meeting. Please check

the mission calendar to see the other devotionals that have been scheduled.

We are grateful that we again have the blessing of teaching people in person in the

meetinghouses. This is a great opportunity for people to come see what a church building is

like and to feel the Spirit that can be felt there. Now is also a wonderful opportunity to obtain

from your ward auxiliary leaders lists of the less active members in their organizations to

whom you can reach out and invite to meet with you in the church building.

I am so grateful for your desire to give all that you have to the Lord. The Lord loves effort

and will bless you for it. We look forward to seeing you on Wednesday at the Battle for the

Cactus. As a reminder, the questions will be from Preach My Gospel, Chapter 8: Use Time

Wisely. I look forward to seeing many of you this week in interviews. Thank you for all that

you do. Sister Andrews and I love you, and you are always in our prayers.

With love,

Hello President,

Hope your week went well. Adobe continues to be an area that has a lot of potential, and

that's fun to see. I'm really excited to work with the new quarantine change that will allow us

to teach in the church meetinghouse.

As a companionship we are continuing to try to do our best. There was definitely

improvement after that fire zone conference, and that's because really they are trying, so

that was great. We did have that companionship inventory that you invited us to have, and

that opened up some good opportunities for communication. We are continuing to strive to

be better every day and it's been neat to see the Lord blessing us for our efforts, even if they

occassionally fall short.

Tomorrow is Hermana Rusks birthday and we have got some surprises up our sleeves, so

that should be fun!

Thanks for your time,

I speak also of missionary service. I was recently in London, England, and there we held a

meeting with the missionaries serving in that area. Representatives of the British

Broadcasting Corporation filmed part of the service. They are preparing a documentary of

our missionary work in the British Isles.

Prior to this I had been interviewed by a representative of the BBC Radio Worldwide

Service. He had seen the missionaries and noted their youthful appearance. He asked me,

“How do you expect people to listen to these callow youth?”

In case some of you do not know the meaning of callow, it means immature, inexperienced,

lacking sophistication.

I replied to the reporter with a smile, “Callow youth? It is with these missionaries today as it

was with Timothy in the days of Paul. It was Paul who wrote to his young companion,

saying, ‘Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in

conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity’ (1 Tim. 4:12).

“The remarkable thing is that people do receive them and listen to them. They are

wholesome. They are bright, they are alert, they are upstanding. They are clean looking, and

people quickly develop confidence in them.”

I might have added, “They are a miracle.” They knock on doors, but not many are at home

these days in a city like London. And so missionaries approach them on the street and

engage them in conversation.

It is not an easy thing for a sensitive young man or woman to do this. But they come to

believe in these further words of Paul to Timothy:

“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

“Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord” (2 Tim. 1:7–8).

They recognize that fear comes not from God but from the adversary of truth. And so they

develop a capacity to engage people in conversation concerning their work and their

message. They and their associates will bring into the Church during this year of 1995

almost 300,000 converts. That is the equivalent of a hundred new stakes of Zion and more

Confidential - For Church Use Only

than five hundred new wards in one year.

“Callow youth?” Yes, they are lacking in sophistication. What a great blessing this is. They

carry no element of deception. They speak with no element of sophistry. They speak out of

their hearts, with personal conviction. Each is a servant of the living God, an ambassador of

the Lord Jesus Christ. Their power comes not of their learning in the things of the world.

Their power comes of faith, and prayer, and humility. As we have been reminded, the work

is not easy. It has never been easy. Long ago Jeremiah said that the Lord would gather His

people one of a city and two of a family and bring them to Zion and feed them with pastors

after His own heart (see Jer. 3:14–15). In terms of the individual missionary, the harvest is

not great in most instances, but in the aggregate it becomes tremendous. The work

demands courage, it demands effort, it demands dedication, it demands the humility to get

on one’s knees and ask the Lord for help and direction.

I throw out a challenge to every young man within this vast congregation tonight. Prepare

yourself now to be worthy to serve the Lord as a full-time missionary. He has said, “If ye are

prepared ye shall not fear” (D&C 38:30). Prepare to consecrate two years of your lives to

this sacred service. That will in effect constitute a tithe on the first twenty years of your lives.

Think of all that you have that is good—life itself, health, strength, food to eat and clothing to

wear, parents, brothers and sisters, and friends. All are gifts from the Lord.

Of course your time is precious, and you may feel you cannot afford two years. But I promise

you that the time you spend in the mission field, if those years are spent in dedicated

service, will yield a greater return on investment than any other two years of your lives. You

will come to know what dedication and consecration mean. You will develop powers of

persuasion which will bless your entire life. Your timidity, your fears, your shyness will

gradually disappear as you go forth with boldness and conviction. You will learn to work with

others, to develop a spirit of teamwork. The cankering evil of selfishness will be supplanted

by a sense of service to others. You will draw nearer to the Lord than you likely will in any

other set of circumstances. You will come to know that without His help you are indeed weak

and simple, but that with His help you can accomplish miracles.

You will establish habits of industry. You will develop a talent for the establishment of goals

of effort. You will learn to work with singleness of purpose. What a tremendous foundation all

of this will become for you in your later educational efforts and your life’s work. Two years

will not be time lost. It will be skills gained.

You will bless the lives of those you teach, and their posterity after them. You will bless your

own life. You will bless the lives of your family, who will sustain you and pray for you.

And above and beyond all of this will come that sweet peace in your heart that you have

served your Lord faithfully and well. Your service will become an expression of gratitude to

your Heavenly Father.

You will come to know your Redeemer as your greatest friend in time or eternity. You will

realize that through His atoning sacrifice He has opened the way for eternal life and an

exaltation above and beyond your greatest dreams.

If you serve a mission faithfully and well, you will be a better husband, you will be a better

father, you will be a better student, a better worker in your chosen vocation. Love is of the

essence of this missionary work. Selflessness is of its very nature. Self-discipline is its

requirement. Prayer opens its reservoir of power.

Sisters and Elders,

It was great to be with you during the devotional with Elder Willis. I hope each of you were

able to take something from the devotional that you can apply in your lives and in your work.

I loved Elder Willis’s acronym JOY which is love for Jesus, others and yourself. I also liked

his questions to ask each other in companionship study: What does holiness of heart mean?

And what can we do each day to be more holy? Please act on these invitations in your next

companionship study.

This Thursday, June 4, Elder Ronald A. Rasband will be giving the missionary devotional.

He requests that all missionaries prepare by reading and studying “The Restoration of the

Fullness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ: A Bicentennial Proclamation to the World.” He also

invites you to have a print or digital copy for reference, as you watch the broadcast on the

Missionary Portal. Please schedule this Thursday evening to watch the devotional with your

companion at 8:30 PM. With the current curfew, if you do not have the connection to watch

the devotional in your apartment, please watch it at the church at 6:30 PM so that you can

be home by 7:45 PM.

Sisters and Elders, this week in MLC we discussed the Standards of Excellence for the

Arizona Mesa Mission. Those standards are the following: 1 convert baptism per month per

companionship, 2 people on date at all times, 2 people attend sacrament meeting each

week, 3 people found per week, and 4 lessons taught per day (this last standard is new).

The standard of 1 convert baptism per month was not made by me but by our Area

Presidency under the direction of Elder Soares. I have complete faith that these standards

are achievable with the help of the Lord. As Ammon exclaimed, “for in His strength I can do

all things.” I would love to hear of your success as you achieve any of these standards.

When you have 2 people at sacrament meeting on Sunday, please send me a text so I can

rejoice with you. When you find the third person that week or teach 4 lessons in a day,

please send me a text. I love to hear of your successes and miracles.

Today I had the impression to look up the first General Conference that took place after I got

home from my mission. I was drawn to a talk given by President Hinckley in the Priesthood

session which was titled “Of Missions, Temples and Stewardship”. A portion of his talk was

given specifically to missionaries. As I read this portion, I had the impression that I should

share it with our mission. I will send that portion of the talk in a separate email. I am grateful

that so many of you are serving in the manner that President Hinckley described and are

seeing the growth and blessings that he promised. Sister Andrews and I have loved seeing

half of you in interviews and look forward to seeing the other half this week! We love you,

and you are always in our prayers.

Hi President,

The days this week kinda blurred together, and so at the moment I can't think of much to tell

you about... we got in contact with a former yesterday named Cruz who was asking all the

right questions, and I'm super excited about it. We are going to teach the Restoration

tomorrow! The spiritual highlight for my week has definitely been prayer. To be able to know

that I can talk to Him about anything, and that He understands even though no else can, is

an unexplainable strength to me. It gets me through every single day and I am so grateful for

that blessing.

Thanks for all you do!

Sisters and Elders,

It was wonderful to see the other half of the mission this week in interviews. I am grateful for

the opportunity to visit one on one with you and hear of the blessings that you are seeing as

you strive to be consecrated disciples of Jesus Christ. It has been awesome to receive text

messages from many of you this week letting me know of when you have achieved the

Confidential - For Church Use Only

Standards of Excellence in one or more categories. Please continue to send me texts to let

me know. It was also awesome to hear that as a mission we taught 1,098 lessons last week.

You are doing a great work. I love 1 Nephi 17:13 “And I will also be your light in the

wilderness; and I will prepare the way before you, if it so be that ye shall keep my

commandments; wherefore, inasmuch as ye shall keep my commandments ye shall be led

towards the promised land; and ye shall know that it is by me that ye are led.” I know that the

Lord will be that light for us in this work, and that as we serve faithfully, He will prepare a

way for us to accomplish His work. As we see the miracles take place, we will know that it is

because of Him that they have happened.

I loved the missionary devotional with Elder Rasband. It is so important for us to study and

know the new Proclamation and to use it in our teachings. I feel that one of the greatest

things that we can do in our lessons is use the video of President Nelson reading the

Proclamation. The Spirit can always be felt so strongly as he shares that wonderful and clear

message.

We are looking forward to seeing you twice this week. First, we will play Battle for the

Cactus focused on Chapter 1: My Purpose from Preach My Gospel. Each zone has been

putting up some great scores. Second, we will be privileged to hear from Brother Richard

Gulbrandsen at our mission devotional on Friday at 3 PM. He has served as a stake

president in Citrus Heights, mission president in Argentina and MTC president in the

Dominican Republic. We will be blessed by his words of testimony and counsel.

We have received permission to allow entire districts to participate in district councils and

district sacrament meetings. The Arizona curfew expires Monday morning June 8th. I am

grateful to each of you that has been obedient to this curfew requirement. Thank you for all

your faithful efforts. Sister Andrews and I love you, and you are always in our prayers.

Hi President, hope all is well with you. I saw on our Facebook page your spiritual thought in

Spanish, that was really cool!

To be honest with you, it has been a really rough week. Cruz, the guy I told you about last

week, ghosted us, and that was really disappointing. But more than anything else our

companionship really struggles to get along. I'm sorry I haven't been more upfront with you

about it, but the last thing that I want is to be a burden or another complication in a transfer

plan that I'm sure is pretty difficult to arrange already. I also really dislike drama, so I have

tried to be extra prayerful and let it all roll off my shoulders and keep moving forward. It

wouldn't be productive to recount the various instances and problems, but please know that I

wouldn't bother you with this if I hadn't been struggling and praying over it or could find a

way to make things better. I have tried to do everything I can to not push them, particularly

Hermana Rusk, farther than absolutely necessary, but at some point in the day we have to

get out of bed and do something. I find myself alone in the mornings up trying to do my study

and trying to figure out how plan my day without my companions... as I continue to try to

adapt and do my best to be obedient I run in the walls with not being able to be functioning

as a companionship.

It kind of came to a boiling point when I overheard some things when they thought I was

asleep. As a silver lining, it is a great eye opener and learning opportunity for me, because

there is so much honesty in what someone says when they think you aren't listening. So in

that way, I'm glad, because I dont think anyone would ever directly point out those things to

me, and I want to be able to turn the other cheek at the hurtful part of it, and use the facts to

be better. We have and are surviving the transfer, but I really think it would be best if I am

not their companion any more. I think it would really help us to get fresh starts in order to be

more effective missionaries and also to feel the spirit. But I need to let you know that I

haven't been more direct about it before also because in my first transfer in this mission I

didn't want you to have to flag me as a companion/missionary that is difficult to get along

with, or that can't handle any kind of companionship difficulty. We have had inventories, and

focused on their music, and I have done everything I know how (or have been advised by a

great STL, and my interview with you) to do. l never in my life have ever felt so helpless and

unable to remedy the problem. Life has taught me that most things can be resolved with a

little bit of elbow grease and humility and resolve, but this has become more than I know

what to do with. Hermana Smith has been a wonderful STL, I really appreciate her service, I

was able to talk to her last night and she encouraged me to be more open with you about

how I'm feeling. Hermana Nielsen has also been a tender mercy, and I'm so grateful for

them both.

On another note, my spiritual experience for the week was pretty neat, although it scared me

a little! It actually happened yesterday. I was Facebook finding when I received a notification

that I had received an email from a lady named Teddie, a close family friend. The interesting

part is that I have only met her once in my life in person. A really long story short, my sweet

mom made friends with her and we have been family friends online ever since. Yesterday I

had an extremely fuerte impression that it is time for Teddie to hear the gospel, but not from

anybody, but from ME. I'm not excited about it, it makes me so so nervous, but Heavenly

Father has made it very clear that this an opportunity I have to courageously follow through

on a prompting that actually is really scary for me. So I'm writing her today to set up a lesson

this week and I will have to let you know how it goes.

Sorry this is so long, I just have one more quick question. My sister who we have discussed

Confidential - For Church Use Only Page 37 of 100

earlier, is heading on a mission in September. I talked to H. Smith about it and she thought it

was a great idea, but I want to run it by you. I would love to meet with my sister Emma a

couple times a week for a mission prep kind of meeting to study Preach My Gospel. Would

that be alright?

Thank you for all you do, Hermana Miller

Sisters and Elders,

I had the special experience of being the pianist for sacrament meeting today. Ok, it was

only the opening song, Come Follow Me, and it was only the right hand, but it was special

for me to participate in a way that I never had before. I know my Mom would finally be so

happy to hear that those two years of piano lessons finally paid off. I hope each of you have

had a special experience over the last few months as you have been able to participate in

district sacrament meetings. This has been such a unique experience to ponder on the

sacrament and the Savior in a special way as distractions have been minimal during that

special time. It has been a wonderful experience to be able to hear my children speak each

Sunday and share in a close, intimate setting what they really feel in their hearts. The Lord

knew that members of the Church needed these experiences to bring us closer together and

to rely on Him more fully.

It was great to be with you through Zoom for the devotional with Brother Gulbrandsen. I

hope that your faith was strengthened in the fact that the field is indeed white and that there

are individuals in your areas that are waiting to hear the gospel. Please reach out to your

Bishops or ward clerks to obtain those lists of part member or less active families if you don’t

have them yet so that you can contact those individuals and let them know how much they

are loved and missed. As we strive to be consecrated disciples of Jesus Christ, those in our

wards will sense the Spirit that we have with us and trust us with their friends and family

members. Your hard work will pay off. We have heard from so many of you how you are

seeing miracles personally or in your missionary work as you’ve chosen to give more of

yourself to the Lord.

We are sad to say goodbye this coming week to 6 amazing missionaries, and we are so

grateful for their dedicated service to the Lord. I am so grateful for the fact that I will be able

to see all of my missionaries again after the mission in this life and even beyond. We are

excited to receive 35 new missionaries. Please pray for their safe arrival and smooth

transition to our mission here. Welcome them to our Arizona Mesa Mission family with open

arms, seek to learn from them and their experiences, and help them to see the true joy of

daily striving to be the disciple that the Lord wants us to be. Thank you so much for all that

you do each day. Sister Andrews and I love you, and you are always in our prayers.

Hi Presdient,

How are you? :) I'm doing well, we had a really great week here in Adobe, we had four

lessons everyday! So that was fun to work towards together everyday, and super fun to

celebrate. As a companionship too it was a much better week, and so I'm super grateful for

that. We are leaving this transfer as genuine friends, and I feel very blessed to leave this on

such a good note. While u am a little nervous about being new all over again, I'm excited for

what this transfer has in store, and excited for a change. I'm grateful too for your patience

Sisters and Elders,

I want you to know how grateful I am for the faithful efforts you are putting forth each day. I

have had several missionaries come forward and share with me that they have viewed

inappropriate material on Facebook as they have searched profiles of those requesting to be

their friends. This has even led some back into unclean habits that they had overcome in

their pasts. They have seen how the Spirit has left them and that they are not able to teach

with power or authority. Sisters and Elders, as I have discussed this issue with several

missionaries, we have come to the conclusion that there is really no good reason to search

the profiles of those that are requesting to be your friends or that you are teaching. With

anyone that requests to be your friend, you could immediately let them know that you are a

missionary of the Church of Jesus Christ and share with them your purpose, but you do not

need to view their profile. In most cases you will know just by their name and picture if you

should or should not begin any type of communication, or if you should just delete it

immediately. I am asking you to no longer search profiles, and I promise you that you will be

protected and have the constant companionship of the Spirit if you follow this counsel. I love

you and want the best for you. You are free to make your own decisions but not the spiritual

consequences that will follow. If any of you have had struggles with viewing inappropriate

material, please come and visit with me. I am here to help you begin to have that full portion

of the Spirit back in your life and in this work. Again, I love you and am grateful that you are

in our mission.

this week’s Battle for the Cactus is Preach My Gospel, Chapter 2: Effective Study.

It has been awesome receiving many texts from you letting me know of when you have

reached the Standards of Excellence in various categories such as lessons taught per day,

people found per week or people attending sacrament meeting. There are so many great

things going on in the mission. We also taught 1,176 lessons last week as a mission which is

outstanding. As we lose ourselves in this work, miracles take place and we feel the lasting

joy of knowing that we are helping others come closer to Christ.

This week I had the opportunity to be part of a wonderful lesson with two nonmembers. The

Spirit was felt so strongly as the Sisters showed the video of President Nelson sharing the

new Proclamation in his own words. One of the nonmembers was brought to tears as she

listened to President Nelson speak. We were able to share that the feelings they felt were

the Spirit not only testifying of the truthfulness of the message, but also that the elderly man

speaking truly was a prophet of God. It was an experience that I will never forget. I am so

grateful for the opportunities that I have to teach with you and feel the Spirit in your lessons.

Thank you again for your diligent and faithful efforts. Sister Andrews and I love you, and you

are always in our prayers.

With love,

President Andrews

Hi President,

I have been so excited to email you this week. This week has been the grestest blessing. I

absolutely love my companions, and my áreas, and Sister Romo who I live with, and

absolutely everything. I'm just on cloud nine this transfer, my comps are so dedicated and

we just work our tails off and fall into bed at night so happy and tired. We taught 38 lessons

in five days! And the best part has been that everyday all day we just see miracle after

miracle, and it is blowing my mind! Writing this email felt a little overwhelming just because it

has been so great, and I'm so excited. The greatest spiritual experience of the week for me

was getting to teach a lesson to a recent convert I had the opportunity to teach and learn

from in Ecuador. She answered the phone and we both just started to cry. Her name js

Ashly and she is 19. The coolest thing was she said, "Look what happened today,

Hermanita!" And she sent us a picture of her hugging a friend of hers who was wearing a

white dress. She had been baptized just hours before we called. Ashly has been sharing the

gospel with her. Now she is teaching another friend and trying to get that one in contact with

the missionaries so that she can also be baptized. It is just like a great big ripple effect that

the Lord is letting me see a bit of His behind the scenes work and I am so grateful. I love the

Lords perfect plan!

By the way, Happy belated Fathers Day! Hope it was a great day for you, thanks for being

the dad of the mission haha, we appreciate you so much!

Thank you for your letter and that is so awesome to hear that things are going well in your

new area and with your new companions. That is amazing that you were able to teach 38

lessons! It really is the best feeling to be anxiously engaged in this work. That is wonderful

to hear about the person that you taught in Ecuador and how she is sharing the gospel.

Thank you for all that you are doing, and I know that many more miracles are ahead as you

give your best to the Lord. Have a great week.

Sisters and Elders,

I hope everyone enjoyed the devotional with Elder Hiatt. It was wonderful to be reminded

that you were asked and chosen to come to earth at this time because the Lord has a

specific plan for each of you. I loved how Elder Hiatt shared that he had committed to follow

the promptings of the Spirit and then followed through even after trying to dissuade himself

several times. I am grateful to know that if we follow promptings we will never go wrong.

It has been awesome to receive your texts during the week letting me know that you have

reached the standards of excellence that day in either lessons or people found. This las

week as a mission we taught 1,396 lessons. That is amazing. Please let us remember that

more important than the number of lessons is to make sure that the Spirit is felt by those in

the lessons and that we are helping these individuals come closer to Christ. I am grateful for

your efforts to seek the Spirit in your lessons.

We are excited to see you this week for the Battle for the Cactus and also Zone Conference.

Please prepare for the Battle for the Cactus by sincerely studying Preach My Gospel

Chapter 6: Christ Like Attributes. You will be blessed as you study this chapter and strive to

gain and work on these attributes in your life and in this work. Please prepare for Zone

Conference by reviewing again Elder Klebingat’s missionary devotional and striving to

implement at least one of his points of counsel over the next few days leading up to zone

conference. It will be great to hear of your experiences with this.

It has been wonderful to accompany you on your lessons and thank you for accepting my

invitations. I have so enjoyed teaching with you and feeling of the Spirit in your lessons.

Today Elder Willis shared with the stake presidents in Mesa Proverbs 3:5,6: “Trust in the

Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways

acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” He reminded us that the Lord has always

known what would take place at this time and that we do not need to fear as we trust in Him.

He will strengthen us and direct our paths. I testify that He will be with us in this work and

direct us to those seeking the gospel. Sister Andrews and I love you, and you are always in

our prayers.

Hi President,

Hope all is well with you. We had a great week here in L4, and saw some really neat

miracles. We taught 40 lessons, found 5 new people to teach and had 4 people listen in to

church on Sunday. It was a really neat week and we are doing great and are so happy. I

have already learned so much from my companions and Sister Romo. I had a cool (although

quite fuerte haha) experience this week after that amazing devotional we heard from Elder

Hiatt. That was a really powerful devotional. Anyways, a REALLY long story short, I was

chastised by the Spirit for a prompting I had put off for longer than I should have, so I had

the opportunity to repent and act on that prompting. It was a great learning experience for

me. I'm grateful for the Lords patience with me. :) thanks for all you do.

Sisters and Elders,

It was wonderful to be with you for zone conference. It is amazing how we are able to feel

the Spirit over technology even when we are not physically together. Thank you for your

preparation for zone conference and also for your thoughts and experiences that you

shared. Please continue to work on the two invitations of your choosing from Elder

Klebingat’s devotional, and please continue to ponder on how you can teach repentance

more powerfully and effectively, and then do it. I promise that you will see blessings in your

life and in this work as you act upon these invitations. We have put together a written

summary of Elder Klebingat’s devotional, and we will post it to the mission documents folder.

If you do not have access to that folder, please contact Sister Bay, and she will send you an

invitation.

We are continuing to teach more and more lessons each week. Thank you so much for your

diligent work. There are a few things that I need to remind you of:

1. Please test your carbon monoxide detectors in your apartments each month and report if

it is functioning properly. It is critically important that you do this. We currently have 12

apartments that are late in reporting. Please contact Elder Purser if you have any questions.

2. Please be sure to remove any trash or food containers that you take into church

buildings. Also, if you are using the church restroom regularly, will you please clean it once a

week with the supplies in the member custodial closet. There have been several stake

presidents with concerns.

3. Thank you for the posts you’ve submitted for our mission Facebook pages. We’re asking

for each companionship to make a quick post each week and a quality post once each

transfer. The mission technology specialists need these so that they can keep our mission

Facebook pages running well. We have received some wonderful referrals from our pages.

We will soon be sharing these pages with all the members in our mission, and we want our

posts to be appealing and inspiring. Keep up the good work!

4. This Friday at 2:30 PM we have a mission devotional with President Lloyd Baird and

Sister Jana Baird. They are the President and Matron of the Boston Massachusetts Temple.

Please be on the Zoom meeting by 2:20 PM.

I am so grateful to be serving with you and to have each one of you in our mission. You

each have so many amazing talents and abilities. I love what Elder Martino said in last

weeks missionary devotional, “You were foreordained to serve at this time.” The Lord has

always known that you were going to be a missionary at this exact time. He has always

known your talents and abilities, and He has put you here because He knows you can help

Him accomplish His work in these times. Thank you for continuing to put your trust in the

Lord and seeking the Spirit to guide you in this work. I promise that as you sincerely seek

that guidance, it will come to your personally. Sister Andrews and I love you, and you are

always in our prayers.

Hi President,

Sorry this is so late! Today was a crazy day and I just totally spaced writing you until like 6:

10, and we had a ton of stuff to do, so I waited till now. Sorry! But it was another great week.

We were able to extend a baptismal date today to one of our investigators for August 8, so

that was exciting! She is so so prepared. She is the same age and reminds me a lot of a girl

I taught in Ecuador. In both of those experience the high of the teaching experience where

the baptismal invitation was extended was after they had felt the Spirit strongly in the

message of the Restoration. Which meant with both of these girls the invitation was

extended rather quickly, relative to the amount of information we teach as missionaries. But I

think that's cool, because it goes to show the power and simplicity of the message,

specifically the First Vision and the Book of Mormon. I love that the truthfulness can be felt

regardless of my own inadequacy in the language and my ability to teach. It doesn't matter

because the spirit and the tool that the Book of Mormon are sufficient. In fact, they are are

more than sufficient. I'm glad to be learning a language, even those its yard, so that I can

learn lessons like that. My companions and district are wonderful, and we enjoy every

minute we have together. This transfer has already been a great strength to me. This weeks

spiritual highlight was for sure in zone conference. That was so powerful, especially the

message Elder Bednar shared about teaching repentance and the remission of sins. As I

have studied that intentionally this week, I have seen the Lord strengthen and increase my

capacity to teach the doctrine. I'm so grateful to be a Mesa missionary. Thank you for all that

you and Sister Andrews do!

Sisters and Elders,

It was great to meet with many of you last week in interviews and also to see most of you

virtually in the Battle for the Cactus and the devotional with President and Sister Baird. I am

grateful for the various experiences shared in the devotional that reminded us of the reality

of the plan of salvation and the work that takes place in the temples. Some might say that

the experiences were coincidences, but I know they were tender mercies from the Lord

giving those reassurances in times of need.

I had the opportunity this week to join some missionaries for a lesson. As I arrived, I was

greeted by one of the Elders while his two companions were finishing up a phone lesson

with someone from another country and speaking a different language. I was amazed at

Confidential - For Church Use Only

how just listening in from a distance, I could feel the Spirit coming from that conversation. At

the end of the lesson the investigator gave his first heartfelt prayer, and the Spirit was felt so

strongly. I just want to thank each of you for living your lives in such a way that the Spirit

can work through you to touch the hearts of others. As I left that lesson with those

missionaries that night, I felt such a sense of joy and happiness.

In thinking about this experience, I also reflected on last week’s Come Follow Me lesson

about Alma and his companions’ mission to the Zoramites. In Alma 31:38 it states “And the

Lord provided for them that they should hunger not, neither should they thirst; yea, and he

also gave them strength, that they should suffer no manner of afflictions, save it were

swallowed up in the joy of Christ. Now this was according to the prayer of Alma; and this

because he prayed in faith.” I thought of each of you and how you might consider

yourselves somewhat afflicted with the current conditions, but also how you continue to

serve faithfully and have these wonderful experiences with those that you are teaching. I can

see that you are indeed being strengthened and that your afflictions are being swallowed up

in the joy of Christ. We are so grateful to be serving along side each one of you. Sister

Andrews and I love you, and you are always in our prayers.

With love,

Hello President! How are you?

Thanks for taking the time to do interviews this week, that's a lot of interviews! Thank you for

your time and insight.

Things are going great, my companions are still wonderful, and so is sister Romo :)

We got to do some service this week and that was awesome, and a lot of fun. We did

service for someone we're teaching cleaning some bouncy houses. That was very fun and

something interesting to mix it up. She was somebody who was on date when I got here, but

she had been out of contact the whole transfer, and I had actually never met her. We called

her randomly one night at 7:30 and she told us she was busy cleaning stuff outside and we

said, "hey we can do service now, we will be there in 10 minutes" and we were. It was

awesome and now we are back in contact with her and she listened into church on Sunday.

So that's is great. Thanks for all you do.

you for all that you are doing. Have a great week.

Missionary COVID Guidelines

Sent Date: Sunday, July 19, 2020

Author: President Andrews

Sisters and Elders,

I have had many missionaries ask me to summarize the specific guidelines and restrictions

in place during the COVID 19 pandemic. I will include that summary below.

Missionaries should not enter homes of members or non members nor teach lessons

outside at the home.

Missionaries can teach in person lessons in the church buildings.

Missionaries should not shake hands of any other person even if you feel like you might

offend the other person. (I have been guilty of this, and I commit to stop)

Missionaries should wear masks in public buildings and also in any church meeting except

for district council and district sacrament meeting as long as social distancing takes place.

Missionaries should social distance in all meetings

Missionaries should not receive rides from members or non members

If multiple companionships are in a car, all missionaries should wear masks.

Missionaries can do service in the yards for members and non members. Missionaries can

knock the door of any member, investigator or former to offer service. Missionaries should

wear masks when speaking with people during service.

Missionaries should avoid eating in restaurants as much as possible.

Missionaries can meet members at the church to eat dinner but need to clean up thoroughly

after and remove all trash from the building.

Missionaries should not eat outside at members or non members’ homes.

Besides the call on preparation day, missionaries are allowed one additional call to parents

during the week. This additional call should not last longer than 30 minutes.

There should not be district lunches after district councils or district activities on preparation

day.

Districts can have a 2 hour activity outside at a park on preparation day. We should not

combine districts or travel out of our areas.

There should be no contact sports during morning exercise or on preparation days.

Missionaries should not enter other missionaries’ apartments.

Missionaries should not meet up with other missionaries for lunch or dinner.

Missionaries can do companionship study at home, at a church or at the park.

Leaders can do companionship study with other companionships within their stewardship as

needed. This should be done at a church building.

Missionaries should not tract, but they can talk with people in public if the person initiates the

conversation or seems like they would like to speak with you.

Confidential - For Church Use Only

Missionaries should not watch movies or videos. Watching church videos occasionally was

a suggestion in the early days of quarantine.

District sacrament meetings should not last longer than 35 minutes.

Exchanges are limited to a one hour walk while maintaining social distancing.

Sisters and Elders,

As I mentioned in my letter earlier today, many missionaries had asked what the current

guidelines are regarding COVID and missionary activities, and they asked that I summarize

those in one document. Please know that those were not guidelines from me but are from

the Missionary Department and our Area Presidency. As we follow those guidelines, we will

be kept safe and blessed in our work. It is interesting that there are very few limitations

regarding the missionary work that we can do now compared with missionary work prior to

COVID. The only things regarding the work that we can not currently do is to go into people’

s homes and tract. We can teach people in church buildings, which is often a better setting

than in the home, and we also now know how to find and teach people through technology.

We can also now do service for people in their yards.

I love what Elder Uchtdorf shared in a recent article on the Church website. He said, “Focus

on what you can do, rather than on what you cannot do. I can feel your joy and enthusiasm

as you focus on the many good things you can do in life. It is amazing to see how you help

and uplift each other by word and deed. You are a miracle and a blessing to this world as

you love and serve God and His children—our brothers and sisters. For joyful or unhappy

times, Heavenly Father has given us a promise and a blessing: “Fear not, for I am with you,

be not dismayed, for I am your God, I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you

with my righteous hand” (Elder Deiter F. Uchtdorf: Don’t Mask Your Heart).

Let us focus on the opportunities available to us and trust that the Lord will always help us

accomplish His purposes. President Nelson has recently said, “This is a hinge point in the

history of the Church and your part is vital.” I am not sure if we realize the power of that

statement. We get to serve as missionaries at the time that the hinge is moving, and the

great gate is opening to allow for the gathering of Israel to take place and expand. This will

be through the new ways of doing missionary work that we are discovering. Thank you so

much for serving so diligently and seeking to know the will of the Lord in how to do this work.

Sister Andrews and I love you, and you are always in our prayers.

With love,

President Andrews

Hi President,

Hope your week was good. Ours was good, but we had a few let downs with the

appointments we set in person with some families of investigators. One family got sick, and

the other family had some car problems. One person we are teaching named Carla, is super

wonderful. She is so good. She had some fairly severe special needs. Shes 23 and lives

with her family and although she is pretty with it, she is very childlike. To give you an idea of

the level shes at, she struggles to read (we always teach in English) and find page numbers

in her BOM. So we had a really great weekly planning about how we can help her

understand and navigate the BOM more easily, and we came up with the really cool idea to

make an interactive preprepared BOM with pages from the Friend that are cool and stuff like

that. It worked great! We took it to her in person and met her and it was so special. She is so

so sweet. She really is progressing at the pace and to the level that she can, kind of like a

primary child. I think she is one that could be baptized and it would be good (of course I dont

know what the exact rules of each situation is) but she is totally dependent on her family and

I dont think they are too excited about religious stuff in general. We also found out that she is

pregnant, due in August, and that she doesn't know who the father is. I don't know what

means, but we are realizing it's going to be a lot more complicated than we originally

thought. But we love her sooo much. I'll keep you updated on what happens with her. We

need to try to talk to her mom. Thanks for all you do President. Your family's in my prayers!

Thanks for your letter and that is good to hear that Carla is progressing. Hermana Ayre

mentioned her in her letter as well. If you feel that she understands all that is being taught

and has a sincere desire to be baptized, you could move forward. She would need to be

living the law of chastity for a month and to have repented of her mistakes. The pregnancy

would not preclude her from being baptized. Thank you for all that you are doing.

We bid farewell to 4 great Sisters and prepare to receive 29 new missionaries to our

mission. Let’s welcome them with open arms and help them to feel loved and part of our

Arizona Mesa Mission family. It is also important that we help them see from the start that

we truly are striving to become consecrated disciples of Jesus Christ.

I really enjoyed Elder and Sister Clayton’s missionary devotional this week. Elder Clayton

shared examples from around the world of how missionary work is being done and the

miracles that are taking place. We are seeing those in our mission as well. Please take

time each week to watch these weekly missionary devotionals from the General Authorities

of the Church. Their messages are so powerful and relevant to the work today. The Spirit

will bring things to your mind that you can do in your individual areas.

I have heard of missionaries going out to walk, run or ride their bikes first thing in the

morning after they wake up and pray. They have said that there are many people out

walking or working in their yards at that time of day. They have been able to greet these

people, start casual conversations, and even ask if they could come back and help them

with work in their yards. I feel that this would be a wonderful thing to consider. Possibly take

the first 30 minutes of your hour exercise time and see who you can meet in your

neighborhoods. The Lord loves effort, and He will bless you for it. I love the words of Jacob

in Jacob 1:7 “Wherefore we labored diligently among our people, that we might persuade

them to come unto Christ, and partake of the goodness of God, that they might enter into his

rest.” I testify that there are individuals in your areas that are waiting for you to help them

come unto Christ. Sister Andrews and I love you, and you are always in our prayers.

Sisters and Elders,

It was so wonderful to greet our new missionaries this week. We know they have

tremendous talents and abilities that will bless our mission. We are excited to have Elder

Bradley Foster speak to us this Friday at 3 PM for our mission devotional. He was recently

released as a General Authority and oversaw the Family History Department for the Church.

Please prepare for his visit by getting to know him a little better by studying his April 2010

General Conference talk, “Mother Told Me”.

You might have already heard about this, but we are changing the one hour fresh air walk

exchanges to three hour exchanges at the church where you will have lunch together, do

companionship study together, and work together for an hour using technology or teaching

someone in person at the church. This will give you more of an opportunity to get to know

each other better and learn from each other. Please be sure to clean up well after your lunch

and take out your trash.

We are very excited about the new video that our mission has created. This video was sent

out to all stake presidents in our mission so that they can send it to each member of their

stake. The video simply and clearly explains how members can follow our Facebook page

and share our posts with others. Please follow up on this when you visit with members,

show them how to follow our page and invite them to post while you are with them. I feel that

this is one of the greatest means to bring about the hinge point that President Nelson

referred to. This will allow the gates to the gathering of Israel to begin to open widely.

Please continue to be safe by following the protocols and guidelines that have been given

regarding COVID 19. Please remember to social distance at district council and district

sacrament meetings. Please also remember to always stay in your areas for non community

service opportunities and that we should not eat at people’s houses inside or outside. You

will be blessed and protected for your obedience. We are extremely grateful for all your

faithful efforts. Sister Andrews and I love you, and you are always in our prayers.

Sisters and Elders,

It was wonderful to join in on several of your district councils and companionship studies last

week. I am grateful for the Spirit that was felt in each one of those visits. Last week as a

mission we taught 1,481 lessons. Thank you for your diligent efforts to help make that

possible. More importantly than the number of lessons, I hope that the Spirit was felt, and

that you and those you taught were edified and had a desire to come closer to the Savior.

We were blessed to have Elder Foster speak to us in our devotional. He gave great words

of counsel and also suggestions to study several books by Elder Tad R. Callister. Those

books were A Case for the Book of Mormon, The Infinite Atonement, and Blueprint of the

Lord’s Church. The Assistants sent out an email from me which contained links to several

talks by Elder Callister. These talks are essentially summaries of these books, and I felt that

it would be good to send them out to you so that you could get a head start on your study.

Please read and study Elder Callister’s talk, The Book of Mormon: Man-Made or God-Given,

in preparation for Zone Conference on Wednesday. I loved Elder Foster’s remarks and

especially the question that he asked us to ponder to ourselves: “What will your last prayer

be like as a full time missionary?” As I thought about that I wondered, “Will I be comfortable

asking the Lord to let me know if He is pleased with the effort that I have given?” I want to

serve with all my heart, might, mind and strength, so that I will be comfortable asking that

question and then longingly awaiting His response.

Sisters and Elders, the Lord only cares about where you are right now and the direction that

you are heading. If you need to course correct at all, do it. At the end of your mission, the

Lord will know the heart that you have developed during your mission, and that is what

matters. I am so grateful for every step that each of you make in the right direction. You are

becoming consecrated disciples of Jesus Christ. Sister Andrews and I love you, and you are

always in our prayers.

Hi President,

Thanks for coming to district sports, that was so much fun to have you there. Thanks for

making that effort, we know it's hot and that we are a little intense when it comes to frisbee

haha, but we really loved having you there and I thought that was super cool of you. Our

area is doing so so well, there are so many prepared people! This past Monday we had

some extra time in the evening and we called a former and taught her a quick lesson and set

up another lesson for Wednesday. We decided to teach her lesson 3 and just really go for it

in the second lesson. We read a powerful scripture about the Holy Ghost, and she

commented that that was a pretty incredible blessing that she thought would be cool to have.

Obviously that was the perfect opportunity to invite her to be baptized, and readily and

enthusiastically accepted that invitation for September. Now there are 4 people on date in

our area and we are so pumped! My companions are so wonderful, they work hard and they

play hard and we are just loving every second together. They are wonderful missionaries,

and everyday I find new ways I want to be like them. They're awesome. Some days this

week during random moments we would just look at each other and shake our heads and

say, "What did we ever do to deserve to be so blessed?!" But I guess that's the cool thing

about Heavenly Father, sometimes he rains blessings down on us just because He is a

loving and generous God. I'm so grateful to be His missionary! Thanks for all you do!

Thanks for your letter and that is so awesome to hear about all the great things that are

happening in your area. The Lord is definitely blessing you for your efforts. That is great that

you and your companions are getting along so well together. I know that there are many

miracles ahead for your as you continue to serve faithfully. It was a lot of fun to join your

district for district sports. Have a great week.

Sisters and Elders,

We loved being with you this week in our mission wide zone conference. It is amazing how

the Spirit can be felt even over technology. I am so grateful for the testimonies that were

shared by our departing missionaries and for the wonderful service that they have given

here in our mission. I know their prayers on the last night of their missions will be special

and memorable experiences for them.

We were blessed to have 7 people enter the waters of baptism this weekend. The field is

white, and the gate to the gathering of Israel is opening. Thank you for all that you are doing

to work with the members and also to do service to find those that are prepared to receive

the gospel. In this week’s devotional, Elder Uchtdorf spoke about the importance of

continuing to use the new methods of missionary work that we have found as well as using

service to build new relationships with others. We are seeing members that are beginning to

truly gain trust in us and are referring their friends to us. We are also seeing teaching

opportunities from offering service and showing others that we truly love them.

I hope that each of you took my invitation to take time to record your experience of when you

first came to know the Book of Mormon was true. I promise that this simple recording will be

a blessing to you at some future time in your life. I am also grateful for your willingness to

study the Book of Mormon for 30 minutes each morning, even early Sunday mornings and to

start your preparation days. I promise that you will receive the blessings that President

Nelson has guaranteed. Sister Andrews wanted me to remind you of her invitation to take

time to look at your heart and to put in the work required to enter into Christ’s sanctuary.

Drop what you want if it’s not the Lord’s will so that you can receive something better. You

will be amazed at the blessings you will receive from this. We love you, and you are always

in our prayers.

Hello President,

How are you today? It's been another really great week. Sol and Vanessa are so excited for

their baptism this Saturday and so are we! Everything is on track with them, and they are

doing great. The two other sisters on date have been really hard to contact but we have

some service stuff planned to get in touch with them this week. My companions are amazing

and I really love working with them. The ward is starting to wake up a bit, we had a really

great get to know you meeting with our bishop (he's been the bishop for just two weeks) and

we discussed how things will start to look with getting back to church, and we planned some

ward activities, and it was super awesome. When I served in Ecuador, working with the ward

wasn't really a thing, so that's something that has been new to me here, but I've been

pleasantly surprised to discover that it can be really fun, and I feel like I'm finally starting to

get to know the ward and make some progress with learning to work with members, it's cool.

Anyways, that's all I've got, but I'm excited to get to have our interview on Thursday. Thanks

for all you do,

Sisters and Elders,

It has been great to see you in interviews, and I look forward to visiting with the rest of you

this week. We are excited about the new opportunities available to us as we can now enter

people’s homes to teach them. However, as Elder Uchtdorf and Elder Pieper have

counseled us, this does not necessarily mean that we must go back to the way we did things

before. We have learned to teach and find through technology. If we can accomplish more

and be more effective by teaching individuals through technology, then we should continue

to use it regularly in addition to in person visits. I believe that one of the blessings of the

pandemic was so that we would pause as missionaries and learn greater and better ways to

do this work. We must continue to use and build upon the things that we have learned and

not quickly revert back to our old ways. Please be considerate of individuals that we are

teaching. If you plan an in home visit, please make sure that they are comfortable with you

coming into their homes, and please do not visit individuals that are older than 65 or have

health conditions that put them at risk.

I am grateful for the devotional with President and Sister Thomas. As I mentioned at the end

of their remarks, they gave us great nuggets of counsel. The following are a few concepts

that really stood out to me. Sister Thomas made a goal to never complain on her mission

and looked for the positive. She learned to truly love an annoying companion. A mission is

laying down your worldly life for a friend. She noticed that she was briefly left in her own

strength when she returned home from her mission because she let the small and simple

things slide briefly. You have 18 or 24 months to serve and the rest of your life to think about

it. President Thomas spoke of taking the Lord at His word. We should arise and be doing.

Let zeal overcome your problems. We must stretch ourselves. The harder we try, the

happier we are.

I love this scripture, D&C 31:3, given to Thomas Marsh. It applies to each one of us. “Lift up

your heart and rejoice, for the hour of your mission is come; and your tongue shall be

loosed, and you shall declare glad tidings of great joy unto this generation.” I testify that the

hour of your mission is come, that every promised blessing is sure, that the field is white,

and that you are indeed binging salvation to your soul (D&C 4:4). Thank you for serving with

all your heart. Sister Andrews and I love you, and you are always in our prayers.

With love,

President Andrews

Sisters and Elders,

This week Sister Andrews and I had the chance to attend several baptismal services. I am

always so amazed at the Spirit that can be felt in those services. The Holy Ghost seems to

always testify of the truthfulness of that ordinance and that the individual truly is entering the

gate to the path that will lead them back to their Heavenly Father. How awesome is it that

we get to play a small part in that process! Thank you to each of you for the part you play to

“lift where you stand” as President Uchtdorf encouraged us. We need each of your efforts,

and we appreciate your hard work.

We look forward to seeing you several times this week. We will have the Battle for the

Cactus on Wednesday, our mission wide Facebook training on Thursday at 1 PM, and our

mission devotional with President Hiatt on Friday at 3 PM. It will be wonderful to hear from

President Hiatt. Please be on the zoom meeting by 2:50 PM on Friday.

I love the opportunity that I have to interview each one of you. You share with me your

testimonies and your experiences. These build my faith at the same time. This week I

interviewed an Elder that said he was having a bit of a tough time with his companion. They

were butting heads over a few things. He said that one morning he began reading in the

Book of Mormon, and he was reading in 3 Nephi 11. He said that he read verse 29 which

states “For verily, verily I say unto you, he that hath the spirit of contention is not of me, but

is of the devil, who is the father of contention, and he stirreth up the hearts of men to

contend with anger, one with another.” He said that in that moment he realized it was the

adversary that did not want him and his companion to get along, and he had a feeling to

come up from behind his companion and give him a big bear hug and tell him that he loved

him. He said he did it and that everything started to get better in the companionship from

then on. He thought it was cool that you really can find answers to all your questions and

concerns in the Book of Mormon.

Please know how grateful I am for all your faithful efforts each day. The Lord loves effort

and will bless you for it. Sister Andrews and I love you, and you are always in our prayers.

Hi President,

It is crazy it is already the last weekly the transfer! It has been a fun one for sure. Sol and

Vanessa were baptized, and that means our teaching pool has really shrunken, so we have

been focusing on finding. We have already had some cool experiences. We also got to go to

two in person dinners this week and that was so awesome. It is fun to feel just a little bit of

the old mission experience again. My companions are awesome and doing well. In my

interview we talked a little bit about Hermana Ayre and the problem with her boyfriend. It has

been hard for her this transfer and as a companionship we were able to talk about it, and

she decided to end things with him. Only a few days after that he went home early from his

mission. It has been hard for her, but also she has already been happier and she knows that

that was the right thing to do. I just wanted to let you know as a follow up from our

conversation. Well, not much else exciting to share. I'm excited for all the meetings we are

going to have this week, that'll be fun way to mix it up and get some more finding ideas.

Thanks for all you do, hope you have a great week!

Sisters and Elders,

I hope you had a great week. It was wonderful to hear President Hiatt speak to us and

share so many personal stories of how the Lord has blessed him with experiences, both

good and difficult, to allow him to become what the Lord needed him to be. The Lord has a

perfect plan for each of us, and as we remain faithful we will see the Lord’s hand in our lives,

and we will accomplish the things that He has prepared for us. The Lord always fulfills His

promises: “I, the Lord, am bound when ye do what I say; but when ye do not what I say, ye

have no promise.” (D&C 82:10) We must have hope and remember that the Savior always

has the ability to help.

We will be welcoming 34 new missionaries to our mission this week as well as an additional

21 over the next two weeks. Please take time to reach out to these new missionaries and

help them feel and know that they are part of the Arizona Mesa Mission family. The

example you set for these new missionaries is so important. We want them to know that we

are a mission of missionaries striving to become consecrated disciples of Jesus Christ

through dedicated service, study and obedience.

I am grateful for the Facebook training that we received this week, and I am excited for us to

work closely with the members in their social media efforts to allow the flood gates to open

to the gathering. We will be discussing in district councils and zone conference ways to

approach and work with the members to help us in this effort.

We are excited to be having our first “Why I Believe Fireside” in several months this coming

Sunday at 7 PM. The Hermosa Vista Stake will be hosting this fireside, and it will be through

Zoom. We will be providing you a Zoom link to give to your friends with whom you are

working. We are hoping that this will be an opportunity for them to feel the Spirit as they

hear the testimonies of recent converts and listen to uplifting music. Please also plan to

watch the young adult devotional with Elder and Sister Rasband at 5 PM this Sunday.

Thank you for your faithful efforts. Sister Andrews and I love you, and you are always in our

prayers.

Hi President Andrews how are you?

I'm doing well, and excited for a new transfer and all the mix ups that brings. Our area is

doing well, and we are teaching several steadily progressing people. One of which is a

woman named Brenda (who lives in Mexico). She was a referral from her investigator sister

we recently passed to some elders in Scotsdale. She is incredible! We obviously couldn't get

her a Book of Mormon, and so we sent her pictures and instructions to download it in the

Gospel Library app. Three days later she was in the book of Jacob! She loves the Book of

Mormon so much, it really took me aback, and made me stop and wonder what I need to

reevaluate in order to rediscover a love for it like she has. She asked us, "Why hasn't the

whole world accepted the Book of Mormon? It answers all the questions I have ever had."

She is a well versed student of the Bible as well. It is so neat to work with her and answer

her questions. We asked her to be baptized on our third appointment and she eagerly

accepted. We are working to get in contact with missionaries in Mexico where shes at.

Two quick questions for you President:

1. We talked about me training this transfer, is that still happening? I heard that maybe

missionaries are coming in a week or two late and wasn't sure when or how I would find out

whether or not I will be receiving one of those new missionaries...

2. In our Spanish ward this transfer there will be 9 missionaries, which was before 7. That's a

lot of missionaries, and we have already been made aware that for many families even 7 is

many and hard for many families in the ward to feed, and already there have been several

days where we just don't have dinners. However, in discussing this with the English sisters

we live with, we found out they cover two or three English wards that are practically fighting

to feed them. We wanted to know what your thoughts were on working some sort of rotation

that would allow us to maybe relieve the Spanish ward of one companionship per night so

that they would only have to feed six, and asking one of the extra English wards to feed one

companionship of Spanish missionaries? We feel like this would help our ward members

more readily volunteer to feed us and have us share messages in their homes. We would

really appreciate your advice on the matter.

Thank you for all you do!

Thank you for your letter and that is awesome to hear about your friend in Mexico that has

accepted a baptismal date and loves the Book of Mormon. I hope you can connect her with

the missionaries there soon. Regarding your question about transfers, yes you will be

receiving a new missionary next week. Also regarding your question about dinners, that

would be great if you could work something out with the words in the area to help out with

providing meals. Please feel free to look into that. Thank you again for all that you are doing.

I know there are many great things ahead for you.

Sisters and Elders,

We want to welcome our new missionaries that arrived last week. We are excited to have

them join our Arizona Mesa Mission family. We are also excited for the 15 missionaries that

will be joining us this Tuesday.

It was a very special experience for me this week to be able to attend the temple with our

missionaries that received their endowments. I could feel the Spirit strongly as we entered

the celestial room and felt the confirmation that it truly was the closest thing to heaven on

earth. I am so grateful that the temples have opened so that our missionaries can receive

their sacred endowments. I anxiously await the day that our entire mission can go back to

the temple and do the work for our family members. When the temples are open, we

normally try to attend once a transfer in our mission. This is so that you can gain your own

personal testimony of the peace and power that comes from making the temple a part of

your life.

Elder Quinton Cook and his wife gave a wonderful missionary devotional last Thursday

night. I encourage each of you to go to the portal and view the devotional. When an apostle

of the Lord gives direct counsel to missionaries, we need to take note and act. I hope each

of you were able to watch the Face to Face with Elder and Sister Rasband. They gave clear

and powerful counsel to the young adults of the Church.

In preparation for zone conference please study the October 2019 General Conference talk

by Elder Terence Vinson, “True Disciples of the Savior”. In February President M. Russell

Ballard visited our mission and gave us specific counsel. A document will be emailed to you

with the notes from his counsel to the Arizona Mesa Mission. Please review those notes in

preparation for zone conference and take some time to consider how both talks could apply

to you currently in your mission and begin to act on it. You will be given the opportunity to

share your thoughts and experiences. We are excited to be able to have zone conference in

Sisters and Elders,

It has been wonderful to participate in the Why I Believe firesides over the last two weeks. It

is so neat to hear the testimonies of these converts and how their lives have completely

changed since entering the covenant path. We really are so blessed to be able to have a

part in that amazing process.

We were blessed to hear from President and Sister Pollock in Friday’s devotional. When we

do our best to keep our covenants and serve the Lord, the Lord can direct us to exactly

where we need to be. He has a perfect plan for each of us, and He will always prepare a

way. As President Russell M. Nelson said, “Keep His commandments, and we’ll be alright.”

I am grateful for your diligent efforts last week. We as a mission taught 1455 lessons.

Again, more importantly than the number of lessons, is that the Spirit was present and that

faith and hope were strengthened. These Spirit-led lessons will translate into helping others

come unto Christ, be that members, less actives or nonmembers.

Please remember my invitation from last week to prepare for zone conference. The

How are you? I am doing great, it was really hard this week to say goodbye for now to

Hermana Clegg, but I know that was what needed to happen not only for her and Sister

Green, but also for Hermana Porray and I. Its hard to explain, but the spirit did confirm to me

that this is the way it needed to be so we could continue to grow and be stretched as

missionaries and as companionship. Hermana Porray is wonderful. I feel so blessed to be

her companion and she is so much fun. She keeps telling me missionary work is way more

fun than she expected it to be and I am just thrilled. We have worked as hard as I ever have,

and the blessings come almost immediately, it is so fun to see. Her Spanish is coming along

great, and she really puts herself out there which helps a lot. I LOVE training. I was t sure

that my personality/experience would lend me to being any good at it or enjoying it much,

but it has surprised me. I think out of my whole time on my mission, this opportunity has

drawn the best of me as a person and as a missionary. It has been a huge blessing for me,

and especially that new missionary training, to just get hyped up again on this crazy privilege

we have to be the Lord's emissaries for this short time. Thank you for the messages you

Sister and Elders,

It was wonderful to be with you in person for zone conference last week. There were

several times that I looked out over you Sisters and Elders from the stand, and I felt so

blessed to be able to associate with such valiant young men and women. I am grateful to be

able to serve next the Lord’s all stars that have been reserved to take the field in this the

final inning. I want you to know that you really are the ones the prophets have looked to for

thousands of years. You become that all star player the Lord needs as you exercise your

faith and do you best. I am excited to visit with each of you and hear of your experience of

praying to know what offering you can give the Lord in righteousness. I know that by giving

that offering, you will be far more blessed than the sacrifice you are making. You can not

give the Lord a crust without receiving a loaf in return.

As a mission we taught our most Spirit led lessons ever last week. We taught 1499 lessons.

I am so grateful for your hard work and efforts. I know that these efforts will translate into

helping more people come unto Christ.

Please prayerfully prepare for General Conference this week. Think of questions that you

would like for the Lord to answer for you. I promise that if you take the time to ponder on

these questions, that the answers will come to you this coming weekend through the Spirit

and the words spoken at General Conference. What an amazing opportunity to hear from

the Lord’s mouthpiece exactly what we need to be aware of and to do in order to be

protected during these turbulent times. In the words of Alma, “shall the words of Christ, if we

follow their course, carry us beyond this vale of sorrow into a far better land of promise.” As

we follow the words of Christ through our prophets, we will be carried to where we need to

be. Let’s invite all that we can to come listen to a prophet’s voice. Sister Andrews and I love

you, and you are always in our prayers.

Hi President, hope your day went well. I'm doing well-- although it was a really hard week.

Besides being thrown back to square one in quarantine for this next week, there's some hard

stuff going on at home that has me worried. Not in a sense that anyone can do anything

about it, and certainly not me, but it's the first time on my mission I have felt needed at home

yet totally helpless. Luckily my family is just about as wonderful as they come, so I am not

really worried about them pulling through at all, its just hard to feel powerless to help them. It

was just one of those weeks where everything that can go wrong did, and everything that

could get worse got worse. Pero asi es la vida a veces.:)

I've learned how to answer the question as a missionary: "Why do hard things happen to

people who are doing the best they can?". The question I'm still learning about (and hope to

hear counsel on in conference) is: "Why do the hard things have to last so long?!" Since the

day I began a scary quarantine in Ecuador with a total shutdown and food rations six months

ago, it has been a daily battle to overcome hard things. The funny thing is that I'm grateful.

And I wouldn't trade all I've learned through the hard. I'm so grateful for a testimony that the

Savior understands and helps us through the hardest things. I'm learning so much about

grace; from Him, with myself, and for others. I feel so blessed to have this experience and

grateful for simple nudges and whisperings from the spirit that help me see His hand in the

middle of the road. It has been the most painful thing that have been the most valuable and

shaping, and so I dont expect (not want) to be spared it. So, sometimes it's hard. But I trust

Him! Thank you for all you and your sweet wife do for so many of us, ministering one on one

to people in their own hardest moments. You are both in my prayers!

Sisters and Elders,

What a wonderful General Conference weekend! It is such a blessing to be able to recharge

our spiritual batteries every six months and receive clear direction on what we can do to find

joy and protection in our lives. It is now up to us to act on the personal revelation that we

have received so that we can have access to the promised blessings. There were so many

talks given about the gathering of Israel or as President Nelson explained, those who are

willing to let God prevail. My thought was, “First of all, are we willing to let God prevail in our

individual lives so that we can help those that are searching and willing?” I know that as we

are willing to give up our will so that God can prevail, He will make us into more than we

ever thought possible. That is when miracles will take place, and we will find those of like

desires. I was impressed with the opening prayer of the Saturday morning session. Elder

Patrick Kearon said, “Help us remember that the gospel of Jesus Christ joyfully lived is the

answer to all ills.” What a simple and powerful truth!

When the talks from General Conference are made available digitally, please go back and

read them and highlight those things that have special meaning to you. These are the words

of Christ given directly to you. Take another opportunity to Hear Him by studying those talks

and then acting in faith.

Thank you so much for your diligent efforts last week. We were able to teach 1543 Spirit led

lessons. You are continuing to do a great work. I hope each of you are feeling that drive

home feeling often.

For the first time since COVID began, we will be having our first in-person Why I Believe

Fireside on Sunday October 11th at 7 PM at Kimball Stake Center. This will also be a

Facebook live event through our Facebook page. Please invite as many friends as you can

to attend or view the fireside online. Please remember that for a missionary to attend in

person, they need to bring a friend or be participating in a musical number. We are excited

to resume these wonderful firesides.

Again, it has been a special experience to interview many of you over the last week, and I

look forward to visiting with the others over this coming week. Thank you for your goodness

Hi President,

We are so excited because today we are out of quarantine!! We are excited to get back to

full speed. I enjoyed our interview this week, thank you for taking the time to do that. We

talked about my offering to the Lord in righteousness, and general conference gave me

exactly the revelation I needed to make that decision. I think it pertains to several things, but

can be perfectly summed up in President Nelson's counsel to "let God prevail". That is my

sacrifice. I'm going to work on it in my personal prayers, consciously letting him be the most

important influence. I think that as I focus on that, it will ultimately affect my habits, the good

ones and the bad ones. I have also committed to take the prophet up on his challenge to

look for the promises to God's covenant Israel in the scriptures, and so I will be doing that in

personal study. I was so grateful for conference, the spirit was powerful and I received so

much action information! I love being a missionary!

Thanks for everything,

Thank you for your letter and that is great news that you are out of quarantine! I am grateful

that you had such a good experience with General conference and were able to receive

personal revelation. As you let God prevail and give your will up to Him you will see miracles

take place in your life in this work. Thank you for heeding the council and invitations of our

Prophet. Have a great week

Sisters and Elders,

Again, it was a special opportunity for me to meet with many of you in interviews this past

week. I am grateful for the Spirit that you carry with you and for your desire to be the

disciple that the Lord needs you to be. On several occasions I found myself driving home

after the interviews thinking about how blessed I am to have a personal relationship with

each one of you.

I am excited for the Battle for the Cactus this week as we review the talks from the Saturday

sessions of General Conference. Please do not stress out about knowing who said what

quote. The questions will be more focused toward the themes and stories that were shared

by the speakers. I hope you are having wonderful experiences as you are going back and

reviewing those talks during your personal study. That has truly been the case for me.

I had a great meeting with a stake president this morning. He is requesting that the

missionaries in his stake coordinate with the wards to find out who the sacrament meeting

speakers will be a week prior to them speaking. He is then asking that the missionaries visit

these speakers and invite them to invite their friends and neighbors to view the virtual

sacrament meeting broadcast when they speak. This is a great and easy way to make

invitations to others to help them come and see. Please follow up with your bishops about

the possibility of implementing this in your wards.

We are very excited to have Elder Paul Pieper speak to us this Friday for our mission

devotional. He is the Area President of the North America Southwest Area. Please prepare

for his devotional by reviewing his General Conference talk from October 2018, All Must

Take upon Them the Name Given of the Father. It is a tremendous blessing to have a

General Authority speak to us.

I am grateful for each of you who are continually striving to make your personal offering to

the Lord. You are letting God prevail in your life. Thank you also for being united as a

mission to strive to be exactly obedient this week and to pray for miracles in all of your

companionship prayers. To the degree that you are obedient, to that same degree the Lord

will prove that He is a God of miracles. Sister Andrews and I love you, and you are always in

our prayers.

Sisters and Elders,

I had the opportunity to attend a wonderful baptism this past Saturday. I was so amazed at

the love that the members of the ward had for this brother. Many of the members had come

together to help do service for this brother prior to his baptism, and by the way that they

treated him, you could tell that they loved him and already viewed him as their brother. I felt

the Spirit so strongly in the baptism as I thought about the goodness and Christlike love of

the members in our mission.

I hope you all were able to gain new insights on how to work more effectively with members

from Elder Pieper’s devotional. You were able to hear firsthand what the Elder Pieper Plan

entails. I will be sending out the slide presentation that he shared. I know that as we strive

to work closely with the wonderful members in our mission and truly come to know their

concerns and cares for others, the Spirit will help us to know ways to help them to lift,

encourage and inspire their friends.

Thank you so much for your faithful efforts this last week to strive for exact obedience. We

were able to see many miracles as we served with all our heart and prayed with all our heart

for the Lord’s help and strength. We exceeded by 100 lessons our previous weekly record

of lessons taught (1643 lessons this week). That is incredible. As I just shared on our

mission-wide call, from Jacob 6:2 we read “And the day that he shall set his hand again the

second time to recover his people, is the day, yea, even the last time, that the servants of

the Lord shall go forth in his power, to nourish and prune his vineyard; and after that the end

soon cometh.” We are those servants, and the Lord will give us His power to do this work

and help miracles take place before His coming. Let’s keep giving Him our all.

In preparation for zone conference that will take place the week of October 26th, please

review your General Conference notes and act on at least one of the promptings that you

Confidential - For Church Use Only

received. In zone conference you will have an opportunity to share what touched you from

General Conference, how you have acted on the promptings, and the blessings you have

seen as a result. It will be an amazing experience as we come together and share how we

heard Him, acted on our personal revelation, and saw the change in our lives and this work.

We are grateful to work side by side with you in this work. Sister Andrews and I love you,

and you are always in our prayers.

Hi President, I am so sorry it has been so long! I just got my browser working again tonight

so now I can write again haha. Hope you and your family are doing well. My family just sent

my sister off to Hawaii today for her reassignment, so that was exciting! It is so special to

have a sibling on a mission! I'm so proud of her and excited for he to see all the miracles of a

mission, inwardly and outwardly. So this week for "miracle week" we had a tender mercy

that has continued to develop and will continue to develop into a BIG miracle. It's that there

is a family in L4 (la familia Iturrios) who are some formers. A man and his wife and their four

young girls. Anyways, they were some formers I have been trying to get in contact with since

I arrived in this area, and we hadn't been able to. We must have called them and passed by

their house a million and a half times. So the other night were out making some rounds and

it was starting to get late, it was like 8:50, and so we decided we should start heading home.

Then I remembered that we were near this family's home, so we might as well just knock

before heading home. We got up there and they had a locked outside gate, so we couldn't

knock or anything. We couldn't even get the dog in the front yard to bark. So we sat there for

a second thinking and we decided to pull up their phone number in areabook. We called his

number and he didn't answer, and we were bummed but not surprised. Then right as we

turned to leave I suddenly remembered that I had recently discovered who his wife was in

areabook

So we pulled her up and realized that the number were different. So we called and she

answered!! And she came outside with her baby on her hip and all her kids with her and they

were wonderful. About 10 minutes into talking her husband came home and they all chatted

with us at the fence til 9:25 (the other miracle of the night was that we hit every green light

on the way home to be back at 9:30 on the dot!). Anyways, they are so prepared and they

love us. They just begged us to come back, it was awesome!! So we went back again

tonight and taught them about the book of Mormon and he started asking us great questions

and we taught about temples, and forever families, and baptism and invited them to read

and pray to gain a testimony of the BOM. We invited them to be baptized when they receive

a testimony of truthfulness of the book and our message and they were willing to do that in

the future. The Hermano said, please come back whenever you can, even 2 or 3 times a

week, just come! The Lord is at work in Mesa! I love being a part of it,

Sisters and Elders,

It was so good to be with many of you this past week and to feel the Spirit confirm to me of

your goodness and that you truly are part of that finest team that the Lord has reserved to

come forth in these latter days. It is a blessing for me to serve with you.

Sister Andrews and I are excited to be with you this week for zone conference. As a

reminder from my letter from last week, please review your General Conference notes and

act on at least one of the promptings that you received. In zone conference you will have an

opportunity to share what touched you from General Conference, how you have acted on

the promptings, and the blessings you have seen as a result. It will be an amazing

experience as we come together and share how we heard Him, acted on our personal

revelation, and saw the change in our lives and this work.

I hope you each had the opportunity to view the Missionary Department weekly devotional

with President M. Russell Ballard and Elder Jeffrey R. Holland. They gave powerful and

inspired counsel on many aspects of missionary work including using the Book of Mormon in

our teaching. If you have not yet viewed the devotional, please do so as soon as possible.

The assistants will be focusing their zone conference training on some of the counsel that

was given in the devotional.

Sisters and Elders, we love you and want you to have the best experience possible on your

mission. We want you to have experiences that will strengthen your faith and help you to

become lifelong disciples of Jesus Christ. We know that as you give your all to the Lord, you

will see miracles in your life and in this work. As President Nelson reminded us in his final

words of his Sunday morning address, “My dear brothers and sisters, as you choose to let

God prevail in your lives, you will experience for yourselves that our God is “a God of

miracles.” I know this to be true, and you are always in our prayers.

Hi President¡ it was a crazy and super wonderful week! We were able to find and challenge

four separate people to be baptized this week, and ALL of them accepted, we have three

prospective for next week too, and we are just busier than can be. I dont know why except

that the Lord is so good to us, we arent doing anything extraordinary, just doing the best we

can and being bold. I love getting to be a missionary and getting to be bold and

straightforward with those we teach about repentance and baptism, theres a power that

comes when you push someone to be their best because that's what their Heavenly Father

wants for them, and He backs us up big time. My companions are wonderful too, I love them

both dearly, and they are really great missionaries. Hope your doing well!

One question for you, because of a surplus missionary situation in Hawaii where my sister

Emma is serving, she has kind of a odd phone situation and doesn't have access to a group

call. So today my mom had her call one phone and put me on the other phone and held

them next to each other so we could talk, but as you can imagine that didn't work so well, we

couldn't even hear each other. So I guess my question is if I could have permission to call

my sister independent of the group call with my parents? Of course that would only happen

on pday (we have the same one) for a few minutes. I think this will be such a special

bonding experience and strength for us to get to share our missionary experiences witheach

other. Thanks for all you do!

let’s go with a phone call every other week for 15 minutes. Let me know if that would be

good for you. Thank you again for all that you are doing.

I felt that we are all excited to begin celebrating our successes of helping our brothers and

sisters come back to the gospel through faith in Jesus Christ, repentance, renewing their

baptismal covenants through partaking of the sacrament, and finally truly receiving the Holy

Ghost into their lives. I look forward to knowing how many of these less active individuals we

are helping come unto Christ every Sunday through Sacrament Meeting attendance. These

individuals will have posterity and future members of the Church that will be eternally

grateful to you.

Thank you to those of you who accepted Sister Andrews’s invitation to use the Atonement in

your life and note the joy that comes from doing so. Thank you for accepting my invitation as

well of striving to let God prevail in your life and seeing the miracles that follow. I promise

that as you act on these invitations you will come closer to Christ and feel His love and

strength more in your lives and that you will feel joy.

I look forward to seeing many of you this week in interviews and hearing of your

experiences. I testify this is where the Lord wants you to be at this time, and that He is truly

Sisters and Elders,

I am so excited to report that we taught 1684 lessons last week. It is not about the numbers,

but it does show that you are out and about doing the Lord’s work and helping others to

come closer to Christ. I hope you are experiencing that drive home feeling as you know that

the Lord is pleased with your efforts at the end of the day. It has also been awesome to hear

about those individuals that you have helped come back to church after much time away.

You are fulfilling your missionary purpose as you help these individuals come back.

We have had quite a few missionaries that have not been feeling well. Please take all

precautions to wash your hands often and to not shake hands or even bump fists. I admit

again that I have been guilty of this, and I commit to stop. I have received word that a few

missionaries are not wearing masks during sacrament meetings. All missionaries should

wear masks during sacrament meeting. We should be wearing masks in any public building

unless invited to take them off. Also, regarding testing for COVID, we should only test for

COVID after receiving permission from the mission nurse and if you are having at least 3 of

the symptoms. We have been blessed to only have 3 missionaries test positive for COVID

up to this point and those cases were about a month ago.

We are excited for our mission tour with Elder Ruben Alliaud of our Area Presidency. The

mission tour will take place the week of November 16. We will have two mission-wide

meetings with Elder Alliaud during the week, and several of you will have the opportunity to

have a personal interview with him. This will be a great blessing for you to have a one on

one interview with a General Authority. In preparation for Elder Alliaud’s visit, please study

his most recent General Conference address, Found Through the Power of the Book of

Mormon, from October 2019.

I have loved seeing many of you this last week in interviews and I look forward to seeing

many more of you this week. I am so grateful for the great work that you are doing. I was

able to attend several convert baptisms this weekend and meet these wonderful children of

our Heavenly Father that you helped come to know Him. What better thing could we be

doing at this time in our lives?? Sister Andrews and I love you, and you are always in our

Hi President, sorry this is a day late, I went to bed feeling like I forgot something but could

not remember what haha, and then it hit me first thing this morning. We had to take several

people off date this week in our area because we couldn't find them (they're ghosting us

oof), so that was disappointing, but that's okay too because it means we have our work cut

out for us. This week my dad shared with me some cool insights from Moroni 9. Sometimes

we dont keep "laboring diligently" because its successful. In fact, sometimes we know that it

will actually be useless, like Moemon tells Moroni. But he also teaches that we must never

cease to perform our labors, because it is that seemingly pointless struggle that is, in fact,

the whole point! Its ironic, but it is true, and I had never learned that principle from that

chapter before. Mormon says, "they're going to kill me, and they're probably going to kill you,

and all of this seems like we are wasting our time. And maybe in a sense we are. But the

keeping on when there seems to be no use is how we fight the natural man within ourselves,

and how we learn of Christ, and how we ourselves are saved." It was a cool insight, and it's

made me think a lot about the attitude I have about the work. Just the doing help us to

become like Him, even if we cant see, or maybe there won't even be that kind of fruit we

think there should be. His fruit is always better! Thanks for all you do, and for our interview

this week,

Thank you for your letter. What you shared is somewhat similar to what I shared in zone

the work that we become converted. Thank you for always serving faithfully.

Sisters and Elders,

Some amazing things took place in our mission this last week. One was that we had 95 of

our less active brothers and sisters return to sacrament meeting on Sunday November 8th.

These are choice children of our Heavenly Father that we are helping to come back and

experience again the light of the gospel of Jesus Christ. I am grateful for all that you are

doing to find these lost sheep as well as those sheep that have never known of the gospel.

Elder and Sister Bednar gave a fabulous missionary devotional this past Thursday. They

spoke of the importance of having the Spirit in this work and acting upon the promptings that

we receive. Elder Bednar made reference to 1 Nephi 4:6,7 “And I was led by the Spirit, not

knowing beforehand the things which I should do. Nevertheless, I went forth.” He

emphasized that Nephi did not know what he was to do, but he still went forth. The Spirit will

guide us as we just go forth. If you have not yet viewed the devotional, please do so before

the Mission Tour on Wednesday. It goes along very well with what we recently studied from

Chapter 4 of Preach My Gospel, Recognizing the Spirit.

Again, we are excited for our mission tour with Elder Ruben Alliaud of our Area Presidency.

The Mission Tour will take place on November 18th from 10 AM to 12 PM and November

19th from 1 PM to 3 PM. Please be on the Zoom meetings by 10 minutes prior to the hour.

Besides viewing the missionary devotional with Elder Bednar in preparation for the Mission

Tour, please study Elder Alliaud’s most recent General Conference address, “Found

Through the Power of the Book of Mormon” from October 2019. As we prepare for these

meetings, the Holy Ghost will enlighten us, and we will receive revelation on how we can find

those that are willing to let God prevail in their lives. I look forward to seeing each of you this

week over Zoom. As we see you on our computer screen, you always bring a smile to our

faces. I am curios to know how many missionaries read my weekly letters. If you read this,

end your weekly letter to me with the words all in. Please don't mention this to any other

missionaries. Sister Andrews and I love you, and you are always in our prayers.

Sisters and Elders,

What a blessing it was to hear from President Russell M. Nelson last Friday and his

message on the blessings of gratitude. It was such an incredible experience to hear our

Prophet pray for us as we were all together. It was almost as if we were standing next to

him as he petitioned our Heavenly Father for us. I will never forget the Spirit that I felt in that

moment. As you feel prompted, please share that video with as many people that you’re

working with as possible. It has been special to see your posts of the things for which you

are thankful. Let’s be cautious in our posts to make them about gratitude and not something

that could be taken as bragging or showing off.

It was wonderful to be with you last week during the mission tour with Elder and Sister

Alliaud. I hope that each of you were able to record the things that were heard and not said

during the meetings. These are the things that the Spirit indicated to you to focus on. It was

awesome to hear of a companionship that took Elder Alliaud’s invitation to heart and that

prayed the next morning to find someone that was prepared to be baptized in the next 6

weeks. After working as hard as they could throughout the day, they received a call in the

evening from a former investigator that had been on date but had decided the Church was

not for him. He told the missionaries that he could not get out of his mind the thoughts of the

things that he had felt previously and told the missionaries that he wants to be baptized.

What an amazing example of acting in faith by these two missionaries.

It has been an incredible week in the mission. There was a companionship that texted me to

let me know that they had achieved all of the standards of excellence for the week except for

lessons, in which they had 26. There truly are miracles taking place. Let’s take Elder Alliaud’

s invitation and ask for the Lord’s help to find someone who is willing to let God prevail and

be baptized in the next 6 weeks. This will happen as we continue to find and show love to

the less actives and also work closely with the active members. I loved this week’s

Missionary Department devotional with Elder and Sister Jackson in which they explained

very clearly that fulfilling our missionary purpose is bringing all unto Christ, member and non

member alike.

We hope that you all have a very happy Thanksgiving. We want you to know that Sister

There also have been a few questions about Christmas music. If it speaks of Christ, it is

be on the missionary Christmas playlist. Again, Sister Andrews and I love you, and you are

Hi President, it was a week full of inspired messages from the YW face2face, the devotional,

the mission tour, and President Nelson's message. I really received a lot of direction and

edification that was much needed. I'm excited for this last week in the transfer. I think the

Lord especially blesses our efforts to be diligent in the "fourth watches" of seasons of our

lives. That is an enduring to the end principle that I'm still learning and trying to be good at,

it's an incredible opportunity to grow and develop Christlike attributes, especially that of

diligence. But anyways, the prophets message was the highlight and miracle of my week. Its

amazing what something as simple as a more grateful perspective can do to bless us and

increase our capacity to feel and be led the spirit. I'm so grateful to be a part of this great

Sisters and Elders,

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving. It was great to see many of your posts on

Facebook of things for which you are grateful. It was a special experience for me to take

President’s Nelson invitation and really think about all the many blessings that I have

received in my life. He was exactly right when he said that counting blessings is better than

recounting problems. There is something about taking that time to recognize the Lord’s hand

in our lives. It helps us realize the love that our Heavenly Father and Savior have for us.

I was blessed to attend 3 baptismal services this past Saturday. The individuals were 16, 17

and 27 years old. It was inspiring to see these young people make the decision to leave

behind what the world would say is cool or important, and to instead put their trust and focus

in Jesus Christ and forming a relationship with Him. But really, that is exactly what each one

of you are doing for these 18 or 24 months. Life is so much better when we turn to the Lord

and let Him prevail. I am excited to see what is ahead for these young new converts and for

you as well.

I love that Christmas is approaching. People are often much more open to talk and learn of

Jesus Christ at this time of year. As Elder Neil Andersen shared in General Conference, let’s

focus on Christ and speak of Him more, especially during this Christmas season.

We are sad to see many of our exceptional missionaries go home this Tuesday. We know

they will go on to do great things in their lives and for the Lord. We are excited to welcome

23 new missionaries to the Arizona Mesa Mission family. Please welcome them with open

arms. Thank you for your diligent and faithful efforts to bring others unto Christ. Sister

possible. I am very grateful to all the missionaries that put their time into making this

wonderful production.

I had a special experience this week. As I was driving, one of my past construction

subcontractors came to mind. He is an inactive member of the church and has had some

serious struggles over the last few years. I called him late one night for the first time since I

left on the mission, and I was able to talk with him about multiple things that he is dealing

with. At the end of our call, I told him how much I used to love when he would come up to

me on job sites and tell me about his ideas of what he wanted to do for his young men

activities when he was serving as the young men president in his ward. I then told him how

awesome it was when I saw his excitement as he used to tell me about his young men that

were making changes and getting ready for missions. I then asked him if he was thinking

about going back to church. He said, “You know, it is pretty crazy that my old bishop called

me this morning and was talking about the exact same things.” I told him that it was not a

coincidence that he had come to my mind the exact same day. I am so grateful for how the

Holy Ghost works in our lives, and how He can prompt multiple people to fulfill His purposes.

As I emailed you earlier this week, in preparation for Zone Conference, will you please come

prepared to share your favorite scripture about Jesus Christ and why the scripture is

meaningful to you? Will you also please ponder on when you have felt the power of the

Atonement of Jesus Christ in your life? If you feel that you have not yet had that experience,

will you pray and ask that the Holy Ghost remind you of times when the Savior has been

there for you? As you act on these invitations, you will be preparing yourself to have a

spiritual experience at Zone Conference. We are excited to see you there. Sister Andrews

and I love you, and you are always in our prayers.

Hi President,

Things are going well, always so many adjustments that come with transfer change, but it is

also such a great opportunity to grow and learn. I love the Pueblo area, the ward members

are absolutely amazing! We have already experienced so many miracles this week. One

was especially touching, and a testament to the principle that we are always planting seeds.

A woman self referred herself and was wanting a Book of Mormon. We took it to her home

and were invited inside, and she told her super sad story. But 15ish years ago she met

missionaries and remembered the feelings she had with them and with reading the Book of

Mormon and she knew she needed that feeling again right now in her life and so she called

us. She just cried and we had a wonderful lesson and the spirit was so strong! It was a really

neat experience. Hope you have a great week!

to you and remembered the spirit she felt from the book of Mormon. There definitely are

people that are seeking this light. Thank you for serving faithfully.

Sisters and Elders,

It was so good to be with you last week in zone conference. Thank you again for your

preparation for zone conference which allowed for us to receive an outpouring of the Spirit. It

was wonderful to hear of your experiences with the scriptures and how you have been

strengthened as those scriptures have given you reassurances at key times in your lives. I

hope that you each took my invitation to record what you felt when you first read that

scripture and why it was meaningful to you. I also asked you to record when you have felt

the power of the Atonement in your life. I look forward to our interviews to hear more about

how this experience was for you. I promise that at some future point in your life, that simple

recording will give you the reassurance and strength to make it through a trial.

I have loved singing the Christmas hymns so often over this last week. I have felt the Spirit

so many times

reconfirm to me the reality of the Savior’s birth and of His extraordinary mission. I love the

references in the scriptures of the hosts of angels that proclaimed Christ’s birth. In Luke 2:

13-14 it reads, “And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host

praising God, and saying, glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward

men.” I have often wondered, “Could it have been possible if you and I were in that heavenly

host of angels?” And if we were, could you imagine the joy that we must have felt at

knowing that the Savior of the world had finally been born? Oh, if we could only remember

what we felt that magnificent night! I know without a doubt that He truly was born that night

and that He is the Savior of the world.

As we spoke of in zone conference, Elder Alliaud invited us to sincerely pray as

companionships to find a person that is willing to let God prevail and be baptized in the next

6 weeks. I know that the Lord will direct us to these individuals as we pray in faith, follow the

Spirit and put forth our best effort to do this work.

From Sister Andrews: Sisters and Elders, as we approach Christmas this year on the

mission it can be easy to miss traditions at home, family time, and feel a bit discouraged or

depressed. This is a hard time of year for missionaries. Focusing on Christ will help. How do

you do it? Think of the birthday parties you got invited to as a kid. It was always so exciting

to pick out a present from the toy aisle for my friend. I knew I would have fun at the party and

that my connection with my friend would be stronger. I didn’t have expectations about what I

would receive at the party and wasn’t judgmental about how the party went. I was just glad

to be there celebrating with my friend. You’re invited to celebrate Christ’s birth this year. He’s

invited you to come. Come to the party! Select a present for Him by reaching out to serve

and invite others to come unto Him. Try not to focus on yourself. It’s His party after all. And

it’s a virtual party, but hey, we’re used to that by now, right? Don’t hijack His birthday

celebration by connecting with everyone but ignoring Him. When you sing Christmas hymns,

focus on the words and let your gratitude to Him enter your heart. Come to His party! This is

one you won’t want to miss.

We love you, and you are always in our prayers.

Sisters and Elders,

Merry Christmas on Friday! I shared this experience last year, but I wanted to share it again.

I’ll never forget my first Christmas home from my mission. I was the youngest of 7, and all of

my siblings with their children traveled to Provo to have Christmas together. We had our

customary Christmas Eve program where we sang carols together and read of the Savior’s

birth in Luke Chapter 2. It was a wonderful evening together as family. That night, my

Confidential - For Church Use Only

parents’ home was full with all of my siblings and their families so I drove to my college

apartment to spend the night. All of my roommates had left and traveled home for

Christmas. I remember having one of the most spiritual experiences of my life that evening. I

simply took time that evening to watch a video of Christ and then to ponder on what He had

done for me and my family. I felt the witness of the Spirit in a way that I will never forget. I

invite each of you to take some time on Christmas Eve to find a quiet place where you can

watch The Christ Child video. You may have already viewed it many times, but prior to

viewing it again say a prayer to know if that sacred event really took place. Take some time

afterward to reflect personally on what He has done for you. I promise that as you do so, you

will have a special confirmation that Jesus truly was born in Bethlehem and that He is the

Savior of the world and your Savior individually.

It has been wonderful to meet with many of you in interviews and to hear of your

experiences of pondering on and writing about your favorite scripture about Christ and also

recording your experience of feeling the power of the Atonement in your life. Thank you for

the Spirit that you brought into the interviews. I look forward to having a similar experience

with those of you who have yet to be interviewed this transfer. I am so thankful how the Holy

Ghost confirms the truth of all things. I share my witness again that Christ lives. He was born

in a lowly manger and lived a perfect life. He suffered, bled and died so that we can find

peace in this life and live again with Him and the ones we love. I know it is true. What an

amazing opportunity we have to give Him the gift of our faithful service. Thank you for giving

your all to Him for this short period of your life. Sister Andrews and I love you, and you are

always in our prayers.

With love,

President Andrews

Hi President!

Thanks for coming to play volleyball with us at the park today, that was super fun. It was

cute that you brought Kade, he is a cute kid. We were still talking about how you showed us

up even 11 vs 1 haha, that was pretty awesome. Anyways, I'm doing really well and so are

my companions. This transfer has been powerful! I dont know that I have ever seen so many

miracles so consistently, everything feels so led and that is a blessing. I couldn't even pick a

miracle there were so many, but I've been working at being better at beholding and so I am

writing each one into my journal, and wow there are lots!! I'm so grateful. One was an older

lady in a really sad situation who we are going to go visit on Christmas, so I'm looking

forward to that and think it will be a sweet experience. I'm excited for Christmas! Hope yours

is wonderful, thanks for everything you do,

Sisters and Elders,

I hope all of you had a very merry Christmas. Hopefully, you were able to have a special

experience as you viewed the Christ Child video on Christmas Eve and pondered on His

miraculous birth and how He would impact all mankind. I was deeply touched by the

expression of the wise man as he knelt, looked at the Christ child and realized that before

him was the person that would make it possible for every human soul to be saved. Over

these last few weeks many of you have had experiences where you have felt the witness of

the Spirit regarding the reality of Jesus Christ. Please know that the adversary is aware of

the experiences that you have been having and will try to discredit them. In 3 Nephi 1 after

the new star appeared signifying Christ’s birth, the following account was given, “And it

came to pass that from this time forth there began to be lyings sent forth among the people,

by Satan, to harden their hearts, to the intent that they might not believe in those signs and

wonders which they had seen.” If you felt something in your heart on Christmas Eve and

have experienced your own signs and wonders, will you please bear record of it by writing it

down? The adversary can never discredit your own written words and testimony. Your

words will be a blessing to you throughout your life.

As I was reading this week in 3 Nephi 9, I read the following words of Christ: “Will ye not now

return unto me, and repent of your sins, and be converted, that I may heal you? Yea, verily I

say unto you, if ye will come unto me ye shall have eternal life. Behold, mine arm of mercy is

extended towards you, and whosoever will come, him will I receive; and blessed are those

who come unto me.” These verses have become one of my new favorite scriptures about

Christ and His Atonement. I love the simpleness of these words of the Savior. His arms are

always extended towards us, and all we need to do is to turn to Him, make changes and be

healed. As a new year begins what a wonderful time to make changes in our lives so that

the Savior can truly heal us from whatever is afflicting us. We can begin to feel that relief

immediately, as we turn to Him.

Thank you for continuing to pray to find those individuals that are prepared to let God prevail

in their lives in the near future. It has been amazing to hear of many of your experiences of

miraculously finding people that had been prepared by the Lord. Thank you for your faithful

service. Just a reminder about Battle for the Cactus this week, if the winning zone would like,

our family can join your zone on New Year’s Day for your zone hike. Also one hint, it would

be good to study the scripture references this week. Sister Andrews and I love you, and you

are always in our prayers.

Hi President,

Well, it was a good week, and we have so many investigators with a lot of potential...

Unfortunately Hermana Conley has just recently becoming sick and losing her taste and

smell. We told the members we live with and they told us they had been sick too, and so

they went in and got tested today and both came back positive. We are still waiting on H

Conley's results but at this point it doesn't really matter, we will have to quarantine anyways.

And so that's hard, but I know that the Lord will provide, even via videocall. So that's kind of

depressing haha, but we are doing well besides that and this will hopefully give us a chance

to really get good at daily contact! :) thanks for all you do!

Sisters and Elders,

I hope you all had a great New Years Day and zone hike or other activity. This is always

such a great time of year to make new goals and to essentially start anew. I love what

President Nelson shared in the last General Conference. He said, “Embrace your new

normal by repenting daily. Seek to be increasingly pure in thought, word, and deed. Minister

to others. Keep an eternal perspective. Magnify your callings. And whatever your

challenges, my dear brothers and sisters, live each day so that you are more prepared to

meet your Maker.” I feel that President Nelson’s counsel is so fitting for us as we are starting

a new year. Let’s leave behind anything that might be holding us back and make a new

normal for ourselves. I promise you that you will be amazed at how good life will be as you

embrace your new normal.

I am always grateful when you accept my invitation to join you in your lessons. It was

wonderful to join the Sisters this last week and visit a man that has been attending church

for some time now. The Spirit was felt strongly as testimonies about the Book of Mormon

were shared and blessings were promised. It really is awesome that we get to have these

types of experiences as missionaries. There will come a time that you will think back on

these experiences and wish that you could live them again.

I loved the words of counsel that President Nelson gave us in the January Liahona. The

article is titled, “Grow into the Principle of Revelation.” Please take time to read the short

article and ponder on the prophetic counsel that is given. Our ability to receive personal

revelation is critical to our spiritual survival and our success in this work.

Thank you for your faithful efforts and continuing to pray to find those that are prepared to let

God prevail in their lives in the near future. The Lord is aware of you and grateful for your

efforts. Sister Andrews and I love you, and you are always in our prayers.

Sisters and Elders,

Saturday and Sunday I had the opportunity to attend several meetings with missionaries and

stake leaders. On Saturday evening I attended a baptism where there were 6 missionaries

present. The missionaries sang, gave a talk and gave a presentation on the restoration of

the gospel of Jesus Christ. After the service, the stake president approached me and told

me how impressed he was with these missionaries and the Spirit that they have with them. I

was then in a meeting this morning with 8 other missionaries. The stake presidency

counselor and the high councilor commented to me that these were truly outstanding

missionaries and how grateful they were to have them in their stake. Sisters and Elders, I

just want to thank you for the example that you are setting and for being worthy of the Spirit

that you carry with you. Others notice the light that you have about you.

Last week we taught 1746 lessons. This is the third time that we have exceeded 1700

lessons. Thank you for your diligent efforts. The Lord is blessing you for those efforts as we

are finding more and more people that are willing to let God prevail. Many of these

individuals have come through contacting less active individuals and families.

I have still felt strongly that it is through our mission Facebook pages that we are going to

Confidential - For Church Use Only

make large strides in finding more people to teach. I feel impressed to ask each of you to do

the following this week. Will each of you video yourselves in 45 seconds or less sharing your

testimony of your Heavenly Father and how you know that He is real? You can choose your

attire but be sure that it is dignified and your name tag is showing. Please also do your

video in either Spanish or English depending on if you are currently serving in an English or

Spanish zone. Please then send the video to your zone social media specialist and also post

it on your personal profile. Please complete this by the end of the day on Saturday January

16th. I know that there will be people that will be touched by hearing your brief and powerful

testimonies.

We are saying goodbye to 4 wonderful missionaries this week. We are also receiving 16

new missionaries that are excited to start this life-changing mission adventure. Please

continue to be great examples to these missionaries and welcome them to the Arizona Mesa

Mission family. Thank you for serving faithfully. Sister Andrews and I love you, and you are

always in our prayers.

Sisters and Elders,

We’ve loved hearing so many of your testimonies of the reality of a loving Heavenly Father.

Thank you so much for taking my invitation to record your testimonies and to post those to

your Facebook profiles. I felt the Spirit strongly as I have viewed many of those. I know

others are feeling the Spirit as well as they hear your heartfelt and sure witnesses. I again

have had several members comment to me about how outstanding you are and the Spirit

that you carry with you. There are no better words that a mission president can hear.

I have felt impressed to focus on the Prophet Joseph Smith in our upcoming Zone

Conference. In preparation for zone conference, I am going to ask you to do several things.

First, will you please think back to the time when you first knew that Joseph Smith truly was

a prophet of God and what that experience was like. If you are still working toward that

testimony, that is just fine. Will you also do the following invitation that Elder Neil L.

Andersen gave the youth in October of 2014? You were all probably deacons or beehives at

that time. As part of a stake youth conference in 2015, I invited the youth in my home stake

to act on this invitation. Here is the invitation from Elder Andersen:

“To the youth listening today or reading these words in the days ahead, I give a specific

challenge: Gain a personal witness of the Prophet Joseph Smith. Read the testimony of the

Prophet Joseph Smith in the Pearl of Great Price. This is Joseph’s own testimony of what

actually occurred. Consider recording the testimony of Joseph Smith in your own voice,

listening to it regularly, and sharing it with friends. Listening to the Prophet’s testimony in

your own voice will help bring the witness you seek.”

This might initially sound like an odd invitation, but if you act on Elder Andersen’s invitation, I

promise that it will be a special experience for you. I hope that you are all watching the

weekly devotionals provided by the Missionary Department. These speakers are Apostles

and General Authorities. I would recommend that zones schedule a time each week to do a

30 minute Zoom meeting review of that week’s devotional. We will also be having a missionwide

Zoom Facebook meeting on Tuesday January 19th from 8:45 PM to 9:15 PM. Please

be sure to join us for that meeting. Again, I am so grateful for the missionaries that you are

and for your desire to be consecrated disciples of Jesus Christ. Sister Andrews and I love

you, and you are always in our prayers.

We enjoyed joining districts this last week for district councils. There was great counseling

regarding ideas to help friends progress. It is wonderful to see how the Spirit can guide us as

we counsel together. I am grateful for the preparation that is put into your district councils.

This past week we taught 1896 lessons which is the most we have taught in a week thus far.

That’s amazing! Thank you for your diligent efforts.

We are excited to see you this week in Zone Conference. I wanted to remind you again of

my invitations. First, will you please think back to the time when you first knew that Joseph

Smith truly was a prophet of God and what that experience was like. If you are still working

toward that testimony, that is just fine. Will you also do the following invitation from Elder

Neil L. Andersen:

Thank you to all that have already been working on these two invitations. I promise that zone

conference will be a special and uplifting experience for you if you have prepared previously

by acting on these invitations.

There is an item of much concern in the mission. I have received word that there is a

Google drive folder in the mission that contains music and movies not appropriate for

missionaries. I ask that you please delete this drive and not access it any longer. I promise

you that you will have an increased portion of the Spirit in your life and in your work if you

heed my counsel, and you will be happier. Ultimately, it is up to you to be obedient to this

missionary standard. Just know that I do love you and want you to have an experience here

that will change the rest of your life. You are always in our prayers.

Hi President

Things are going really well and its a blessing. I have never been in a ward as wonderful as

the Pueblo Ward. I have lesrned more about member missionary work here and how to do it

more effectively than I have in my entire mission. I love the second transfer in an area, you

find a rhythm and you start forming relationships with members and amigos. It's been

awesome. Especially after spending almost half of the first transfer in quarantine. I don't

know what your plans are for me next transfer and I am willing to do whatever you (or the

Lord) ask of me. But if it is possible, I would love love love to stay in the Pueblo area for my

last transfer. Anyways, my companions are doing well, especially Hermana Conley has

shown much improvement and really settled in, found her place, and made a long term

commitment to the Lord. I'm really proud of her. And Hermana Kunz is probably the most

Christlike person I have ever met, I aspire to be like her. I haven't had any exchanges yet,

the first one is with Hermana Kister tomorrow. I am nervous, but also excited. I just pray that

these exchanges can be uplifting experiences for each one. I really appreciated the training

on exchanges in MLC, it was exactly what I needed. Thanks for all you do

Sisters and Elders,

I am grateful for the Spirit that we were able to feel together in zone conference this past

week. Thank you for your preparation and worthiness to allow the Spirit to be with us in such

great abundance. I am especially grateful for those of you that acted on my and Elder

Andersen’s invitation to record Joseph Smith History in your own voice and for the spiritual

experiences that have been shared from that. If you have not done so already, please write

down how you have come to know that Joseph Smith was a prophet. If you do not feel that

you have that testimony yet, please write about aspects of the gospel for which you have felt

peace. Throughout your life please remember that you will always be blessed for following

the counsel of your priesthood leaders.

I had the privilege this week of attending two different stake conferences with two different

General Authorities. It was wonderful to be taught by them and to hear their special

witnesses of the Savior. I know that those men are truly called of God.

This week I attended coordinating council meetings with each stake president in Mesa and

Globe, and I was able to share with them the plans that we discussed in zone conference

regarding working with members in their stakes. They were all supportive of our plans and

willing to help. Let’s review the plans (or stones) that we are presenting to the Lord and

asking for Him to consecrate (or touch) to bring souls unto Him:

1. Follow up with all media referrals within 1.5 hours of notification.

2. Join your ward Facebook pages and friend but unfollow all members. Send each

member a message asking them to pray to know of 3 of their friends that you can send a

friend request to.

3. Chapel tours for all church buildings in Mesa and Globe on February 20th from 1-3 PM

4. Each Sunday obtain from the ward clerk the speakers for the following Sunday. Visit

each speaker early in the week and invite them to share the sacrament meeting link with

their friends.

5. Make a brief video of how you came to know that Joseph Smith is a prophet and post

that to your Facebook profile.

6. Each day in companionship study do one Edify App lesson and report each week.

7. Update area book several times each day (especially right after you respond to a referral)

I have loved viewing the recent videos you have made in which you have shared how you

have gained your testimonies of the Prophet Joseph Smith. I have felt the Spirit as I have

watched your heartfelt testimonies. These videos will touch the hearts of others and also be

a blessing to you at some future time in your life. Thank you for serving faithfully. Sister

Andrews and I love you, and you are always in our prayers.

Sisters and Elders,

We as a mission were blessed to have 9 individuals enter the waters of baptism last week! I

had the opportunity to witness 3 of those baptisms, and I am so grateful for the peace and

love that was felt during those baptismal services. It was wonderful to see several

investigators attend each baptismal service as well. Thank you for all that you are doing to

hasten the work here in Mesa.

I had the chance this week to attend a lesson with a young couple that is preparing

themselves for baptism. I first met this couple about 7 months ago when I attended a lesson

with them. During the most recent lesson the Spirit could be felt so strongly. The man

shared with me that 7 months ago when he met with me and the missionaries, he did not

want to be there and that he was only there for his girlfriend. He said that a few months ago

he was in a very dark place and decided to pray to know if this message really was true. He

received an overwhelming witness that it is all true. There were tears in his eyes as he

shared this. As I left that lesson and drove home, I could not stop thinking to myself of how

amazing it is that we get to be part of this work and have these experiences regularly as

missionaries. The drive home feeling is real! There really is no better thing that we could be

doing at this time, and nothing that would bring us more joy.

I have loved having interviews with you and hearing of your experiences of pondering on

your testimonies of the Prophet Joseph Smith and recording those thoughts and

impressions. I have felt the Spirit as I have viewed the personal videos of your testimonies

that have been posted. Thank you so much for taking the time to do that. Others will feel the

Spirit as they view them as well. I look forward to hearing of the personal experiences of the

rest of you as we meet this week in interviews. I am grateful for your goodness and your

desire to serve the Lord faithfully. Sister Andrews and I love you, and you are always in our

I am so excited to see the miracles that are going to take place this week as we strive to be

exactly obedient and ask for the Lord to consecrate our performance. I know that we will be

blessed to the degree that we keep His commandments. He never fails on His promises to

us. (D&C 82:10) We know that we can’t dictate to the Lord how He should bless our efforts.

He chooses the blessings. However, I hope and pray that some of the miracles will come in

the form of people feeling prompted to come join us for our chapel tours and that they will

feel the Spirit that dwells in these dedicated buildings. Let’s be well prepared to give a

chapel tour where the Spirit is felt.

This week I was able to see firsthand that the elect of the Lord are here and waiting to

receive the restored gospel. I had the opportunity to accompany a companionship to teach

a complete family of 5 individuals. This family met the missionaries because one missionary

saw the mother standing in front of her apartment on the second floor, and then he had the

prompting to turn around and go back to talk to her. She accepted an invitation to meet with

them, and the family has attended church 2 weeks in a row. It was a special experience for

me to be in their home and to see the father feel and recognize the Spirit and then recognize

that the Lord had placed people exactly where they needed to be in order for him and his

family to come to know the gospel. Sisters and Elders, the Lord will guide us to the elect if

we are faithful and sincerely ask for His help.

Thank you for the sacrifices that you make each day to hasten this work. I often have

people tell me how wonderful you are and the Spirit that you carry with you. Thank you for

being worthy of that Spirit. Let’s pray for miracles like it all depends on the Lord and then

work for those miracles like it all depends on us. Truly, miracles will happen. Sister

Andrews and I love you, and you are always in our prayers.

phone crashed and I was without one for a few days... things are finally looking up in our

area... it had been a rough slow couple of weeks of a lot of planting but little harvest.

However yesterday in delivering Valentines to several elderly friends we have, we were able

to put one woman on date! And that for sure wasn't part of the plan!:) her name is Josie and

she is going to be 87 two days after she is going to be baptized. So we are excited for that

and it was for sure the highlight. Have a great week!

Sisters and Elders,

Thank you so much for your faithful efforts this last week to strive for exact obedience. I

know that no effort was wasted and that we were and will continue to be blessed in many

ways. When we are obedient, we are immediately blessed in some manner in our lives.

(Mosiah 2:24)

This last week I had the opportunity to be part of a lesson with a man that has been meeting

for quite a while with the missionaries. As we asked inspired questions, he shared with us

that he had experiences in the past where he felt that God had abandoned him. He shared

that when he was a little boy, he had an uncle with a serious illness and that his family had

prayed for him, but that he still passed away. He felt that God did not hear his prayers. I

shared the experience with my brother passing away from cancer a few years ago and how

we had prayed and fasted for him, but that he still passed away. I shared how I could see

how my brother’s passing was able to touch many lives at his funeral as many people

learned of the plan of salvation. I also shared how I was able to feel peace from the Holy

Ghost that his spirit continued on, just in another place. The man then shared about his little

sister that died of cancer and that he could not see why God would let that happen. I felt

prompted to tell him that Heavenly Father had a better plan and that He called her home to

be with Him. I testified that she was now with her Heavenly Father and that I knew that

without a doubt and that the sting of death was swallowed up in Christ and that he would see

her again. The Spirit was very strong in the apartment. He accepted the invitation to let down

his walls and to pray to God again. At the end of the visit, one of the Elders felt prompted to

share Enos 27 which are the final words of Enos:

“And I soon go to the place of my rest, which is with my Redeemer; for I know that in him I

shall rest. And I rejoice in the day when my mortal shall put on immortality, and shall stand

before him; then shall I see his face with pleasure, and he will say unto me: Come unto me,

ye blessed, there is a place prepared for you in the mansions of my Father. Amen.”

I then shared that I know it is not a coincidence that the Elder shared that verse. I explained

that the day before my brother passed away I flew to San Diego to visit him. After seeing

him that last time, I went back to the airport and boarded the plane. I sat in my seat and

opened the Book of Mormon for comfort. I read Enos 27 and it was as if they were the final

words of my brother to me. I shared that with the man, and we were all again touched by

the Spirit.

Sisters and Elders, the Lord is in the details of our lives and this work. As we look for His

hand we will see it. With the new transfer beginning, please take the time to make prayerful

transfer goals and then work with the Lord to accomplish them. In the strength of the Lord

we can do all things. Sister Andrews and I love you, and you are always in our prayers.

Hi President

Things are going well in the area and I am super excited about this change in goals being for

the transfer instead of the month. I think it is a great idea and I'm excited to do that with my

companion tomorrow. The highlight of the week was a woman we found last night out on her

porch. We talked for almost two hours, she had so many questions. Her name is Angelina.

The sweetest thing was when we explained to her Premortal Life. She was incredulous! She

was so tickled by the idea that she lived with God and that she chose to follow Jesus Christ.

She asked how we knew that and some other things and it was a neat experience to testify

of the clearness of the BOM. What a blessing. I love being a missionary. I'm nervous to go

into my last transfer, but I'm also excited to make goals with God and put my shoulder to the

wheel and have an incredible last six weeks. Thanks for all you do!

Thank you for your letter and it really will be an awesome experience for you to set goals for

this transfer and see what you can accomplish with the Lord’s help before you go home.

Thank you for sharing that experience of meeting that woman and helping her to remember

things that she once new. Thank you for your faithful service. Have a great week

Sisters and Elders,

We were blessed to receive 19 new wonderful missionaries to the Arizona Mesa Mission

family. Please reach out to them within your districts and welcome them to Mesa. Sister

Andrews and I had the opportunity to attend two stake conferences this weekend. It was

such a treat to have several members come up to us and tell us how amazing the

missionaries are that are in their wards and what a wonderful Spirit they have with them.

You are giving Sister Andrews and me proud parent moments. Thank you for striving to be

consecrated disciples of Jesus Christ.

Thank you for prayerfully setting your companionship goals for this transfer. I am excited to

see the things that you will accomplish as you work side by side with the Lord to accomplish

the goals that the Spirit has inspired. Pray like it all depends on the Lord and serve like it all

depends on you.

We are changing up Battle for the Cactus for this week. Wednesday at 3 PM we will actually

be having a mission wide Facebook training that will be given by a Facebook specialist from

the Missionary Department. We are excited to learn from her. Please plan on joining the

training on Wednesday at 3 PM through the regular Zoom link.

In preparation for Zone Conference, please study Preach My Gospel, Chapter 4: How Do I

Recognize the Spirit. Please also think back on the times that you have received personal

revelation or promptings in your life. What happened when you acted on that revelation?

Also, think back on what you were doing when you received that revelation. I am excited to

hear of your experiences at zone conference.

We had many small miracles take place with our chapel tours. It may seem like the tours

didn’t make much of a difference, but 50 chapel tours is significant! I thought I would share

just one miracle that I read in one of the weekly letters from last week:

The chapel tours turned out to be a great success! We didn't actually get to give anyone a

tour, but we went out to the road and started waving at every car! During the last 5 minutes a

truck pulled into the parking lot, and they got out to talk to us. He said that he was baptized

and went to church when he was young and a little in another state, but he and his girlfriend

were looking for a church to attend. We told them we have church on Sundays at 11 and

invited them to come. He said they would be there, and he actually came! And not only that,

but during sacrament we leaned over when they announced the Why I Believe fireside and

invited them to come, and they said yes to that too! They came to the fireside and after it we

talked a little bit about the Book of Mormon and gave each of them one, and we got their

phone numbers. They also want to learn English so they said they are going to come to the

English classes that we teach on Tuesdays! It was cool to see everything just work out so

well and see that God really has prepared these people!

Sisters and Elders, thank you for serving so faithfully so that these wonderful blessings can

take place. Sister Andrews and I love you, and you are always in our prayers.

With love,

President Andrews

Hi President. The first week of transfers always flies by. I'm happy to be here again in

Pueblo. I'm also excited to have Hermana Wolverton. I think she is struggling with the

change more than she expected to, but I know she will get the hang of things quickly. She is

a really dedicated missionary. This week's miracle was small, but a tender mercy for me. A

few weeks back my phone stopped working. I had to send it in to be repaired. I received a

ridiculously expensive repair bill from the company because they stated that the damage

didn't fall under the warranty. I felt that that couldn't be true based on the diagnostic I

received earlier that week at the store. It was just kind of one more expensive and really

stressful thing on top of everything else. So I said a prayer about it. Several actually. And I

told the Lord the situation and that I needed this phone bill to be resolved. Then I called the

customer service back and explained everything again and a very kind phone person waved

my bill. I know it's small, and the Lord has more important things to worry about that $300

bills, but He knew it was important to me. I'm so grateful for a merciful God who is also a

loving father who helps me with big and small things each day.

Sisters and Elders,

It was great to join in on two district councils last week as well as several companionship

studies. I am grateful for the Spirit that was felt in those settings. I also had the chance to

accompany two Elders to teach an investigator that they have been working with for quite a

while. He has had some reservations regarding the acceptance of a modern day prophet.

We had the chance to watch with him the Give Thanks video from President Nelson. The

Spirit was present in the room as we testified of how each of us had come to know that there

are modern day prophets on the earth. The Spirit will always testify of the Lord’s prophet.

This week at Teaching Academy I shared the following scriptures:

3 Nephi 20:42 For ye shall not go out with haste nor go by flight; for the Lord will go before

you, and the God of Israel shall be your rearward.

and

D&C 49:27 Behold, I will go before you and be your rearward; and I will be in your midst, and

you shall not be confounded.

I love that both of these scriptures describe the Lord as a rearward or the support at the

back of something. It is pretty amazing to think that we can substitute in the modern

vocabulary “has your back” in those sentences. How wonderful is it to know that as we are

faithful or “all in” that we can go forth in the strength of the Lord because the Lord has our

back.

We are excited to be with you in zone conference this week. I wanted to remind you of my

invitation to prepare for zone conference. Please prepare by studying Preach My Gospel,

Chapter 4: How Do I Recognize the Spirit. Please also think back on the times that you

have received personal revelation or promptings in your life. What happened when you

acted on that revelation? Also, think back on what you were doing when you received that

revelation. I am excited to hear of your experiences at zone conference.

We are also looking forward to our Why I Believe fireside this coming Sunday at 7 PM at the

Kimball Stake Center. This is a great opportunity to bring the people that you are working

with so that they can hear the testimonies and life stories of those that have come unto

Christ and joined the Church. As a reminder, in order for you to attend, you would need to

bring a nonmember or returning member. Thank you so much for your faithful efforts. Sister

Andrews and I love you, and you are always in our prayers.

Sisters and Elders,

We loved seeing each of you this last week in zone conference. Thank you for your

preparation for the conference and for the things that you shared as we were together. I

hope that we all were able to focus more on the importance of seeking the Holy Ghost more

in our lives and to follow the promptings that come to us. It is the only way that we can be

successful in this great work. It is a wonderful promise that the Lord will micromanage our

lives if we let Him.

I have heard from several missionaries that have already had great experiences with

showing the “Those in the Back Room of Our Lives” video as part of their messages with

members. It helps members see so clearly how easy it is to take time and pray to know who

is in the back rooms of our lives that we can help feel loved and even come closer to the

Savior.

Last night I had the opportunity to attend the baptism of an elderly man that had attended

church for over 50 years with his wife that was a member. His wife passed away a little over

a year ago. As the missionaries have visited him, he has been able to feel the Spirit and

realize that this is what he needs to do to be with his wife after this life. There were over 30

sets of missionaries that have visited this man over the years. Each one helped to add to

his faith and testimony. You never realize how much of a contribution you really are making.

There are individuals that will be eternally grateful for your efforts.

In the “Why I Believe” fireside tonight there was a reoccurring theme. That theme was that

the gospel brings light into our lives when things might seem dark. That went along perfectly

with a scripture I read this morning in my scripture study. It was Alma 32:35

“O then, is not this real? I say unto you, Yea, because it is light; and whatsoever is light, is

good, because it is discernible, therefore ye must know that it is good”

This scripture reminded me of just how simple it really is to know the gospel is real. As we

follow the gospel of Jesus Christ, we always begin to sense that light come into our lives. It

never fails, and this gospel is indeed real. Take a moment and ponder on what life is like

when you are truly striving to live the gospel of Jesus Christ. The difference is clear.

Thank you for serving faithfully in your sacred callings. I look forward to seeing you in

interviews. Sister Andrews and I love you, and you are always in our prayers.

Hi President!

We experienced a real miracle this week! We needed an outside the box idea to mix it up

this week, and what we did was sidewalk chalk contacting... we brainstormed questions we

felt people might relate to and then my companion and I lettered them all over a park and left

our phone number. Well, somebody messaged us! His name is Abraham. He has had some

pretty serious trauma in his life, which is why the question, "Why does God let bad things

happen to good people?" caught his attention. After visiting with him for a few days over text,

we set an apt to meet him at that park in person. We went to the meeting and he was there

with his wife and three young sons. Then it got even crazier, because we spoke it English as

the chalk thing was in English and he turned to his wife and began translating what we said

into Spanish. So we told them we too spoke Spanish and were able to teach them a lesson

there and invite their family to church and they said they would come I know the gospel will

be the balm that can help him heal old wounds and I can't wait for him to find out. I know

God inspires us with ideas, sometimes even crazy ones, that will allow us to bless others.

His is a perfect plan and I'm grateful to be part of it.

Thank you for following the promptings of the spirit. You never go wrong. Have a great week

Sisters and Elders,

I enjoyed visiting with many of you this past week in interviews and hearing of the things that

you are doing to have the Holy Ghost more in your lives and to also hear of how you have

been following the promptings that you have been receiving. We were blessed to have 9

convert baptisms in our mission this week. Sister Andrews and I were able to attend two

services, and the Spirit was felt strongly in both. It is amazing how that feeling of love and

peace can always be felt at a baptism. I am also grateful for all the work that you have been

doing with returning members. We have been blessed over the last few weeks to have two

individuals come back into the gospel and be baptized again. I can only imagine how happy

our Heavenly Father is as He sees His children come back. The story of the prodigal son in

Luke 15 comes to mind: “And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great

way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed

him.” I know that our Heavenly Father has the same love for these individuals and for us as

we turn to Him.

I am looking forward to Easter and to General Conference. Let us be sure to speak of Christ

as often as possible especially with Easter approaching. Please also invite all that you are

working with to watch General Conference and hear the words of our prophets. Share your

testimonies that the men that will speak are modern day prophets that speak for Jesus

Christ. Share how you personally have come to know that they are prophets of God. If you

are working with people, consider asking members if you can bring your friends to their

home to watch a session of General Conference. I promise that as your friends watch

General Conference, the Spirit will touch their hearts and they will know that their words are

true. Please also prepare yourselves by being prayerful and asking for specific direction in

your lives through the talks that will be given. If you listen intently, you will receive personal

revelation for your life and those with whom you are working.

I look forward to seeing many of you in interviews this week and hearing your experiences of

making small adjustments to allow you to hear Him more. Sister Andrews and I love you,

and you are always in our prayers.

Sisters and Elders,

I am grateful for the opportunity that I had this week to join in on a lesson with a returning

member family that was preparing to baptize their 11 year old son. We asked this couple to

share with us their stories of how they joined the Church and how their lives have been

changed by doing so. The father shared how he was in and out of activity for most of his life,

but he has always been able to see that when he tries to live the gospel that he feels so

much better and senses so much more light in his life. He shared that his father made many

bad choices when he was younger but then made a complete turn around in his older years

when he joined the church and started living the gospel. The father became a temple worker

and shared the gospel with many from his old crowd and with his family members. The Spirit

was so strong in the home as this man spoke of the amazing man that his father had

become through the gospel. The wife also shared her story of learning about the gospel

through her husband and the positive changes that took place in her life. We then taught

about temples to their 11 year old son, and we testified of the reality that families can be

sealed for eternity in those sacred buildings. The Spirit again confirmed the reality of our

words. As I left that lesson, I said to the Elders, “Isn’t it amazing that we get to have those

kinds of experiences as we serve missions!” Sisters and Elders, this is a great work to be

part of.

I love the new video, This Easter Find Peace in Jesus Christ, by President Russell M.

Nelson. It is such a powerful witness of the reality of Jesus Christ, His Atonement and our

ability to live again with those that we love because of Him. I would recommend sharing it

as often as possible leading up to Easter and General Conference. Those who view it will

also receive a witness that President Nelson is indeed the Prophet of God on the earth.

Sisters and Elders, please prayerfully prepare for General Conference and take notes of

what the Spirit speaks to you while you watch. I promise you that you will receive inspiration

and revelation for you personally. In our zone conference in April, we will be discussing the

personal revelation that you received as you listened to the Lord’s Prophet and Apostles.

What an amazing opportunity we have to hear exactly what the Lord would have us know

and do at this time in our lives. Thank you so much for your faithful service and for the Spirit

that you carry with you. Sister Andrews and I love you, and you are always in our prayers.

Hi President, hope you're doing well!

We are doing well here in Pueblo! This week I was able to have two exchanges, one with

Hermana Martinez and one with Hermana Hibbert. I'm sure you are already aware that they

struggle a little bit, but things have drastically improved this week. Hermana Martinez

especially had a cool apiritual experience she shared with me and I believe they are doing

much better. One thing you should know is that Hermana Hibbert (both from her perspective

and her companions) struggles because she feels like she hasn't been entrusted with any

leadership responsibilities during her mission, and she feels a little bit like that means she

hasn't measured up. Of course that isn't true, but she feels that way sometimes. Obviously I

can understand why she hasn't been called upon to be an STL, as she struggles so much

with each of her companions. But maybe there is an opportunity for her to be called on with

something that has to do with the music? I think she wanted to help with that when Sister

Davis left, but she didn't feel comfortable openly volunteering, but would preferred to be

asked. Maybe she can be given an assignment to help Elder Garret with that? I just think it

would mean so much to her to help in another way. She doesnt know I'm suggesting this or

really how aware I am of her desire to do more in the mission. Thanks for all that you do!

Sisters and Elders,

What a wonderful General Conference! It was so special to spend Easter weekend listening

to Prophets, Seers and Revelators sharing their testimonies of our Savior, Jesus Christ. I

felt the truthfulness of their words so strongly when they shared their powerful witnesses like

the one shared by Elder Holland, “Have a blessed, joyful, peaceful Easter. Its untold

possibilities have already been paid for by the Prince of Peace. Whom I love with all my

heart. Whose church this is, and of whom I bear unequivocal witness, even the Lord Jesus

Christ.” I know that these are men of God that know the Savior personally.

I hope you were able to hear Him as you watched General Conference and had the Spirit

speak to your mind and heart. Please be sure to review your notes of what the Spirit said to

you and start acting on those promptings right away. I look forward to hearing of your

thoughts and your experiences when we meet in zone conference.

Sisters and Elders, I want to share with you how grateful I am for this Easter season and for

the opportunity to celebrate the life, sacrifice, and resurrection of our Savior. I know that He

truly did overcome our sins in the Garden of Gethsemane and that He rose from the tomb

the third day. I know this because of the undeniable peace that I feel in my heart every time

I read or hear of what He did for us. How can you read these words of Abinadi and not feel

in your heart that they are true? “But there is a resurrection, therefore the grave hath no

victory, and the sting of death is swallowed up in Christ. He is the light and the life of the

world; yea, a light that is endless, that can never be darkened; yea, and also a life which is

endless, that there can be no more death.” The Spirit will always testify of truth. How

wonderful it is to know with certainty that those we love are not gone forever but that we will

be with them again! I know this to be true without a doubt. He is risen. Christ has won the

victory. Sister Andrews and I love you, and you are always in our prayers.

With love,

President Andrews
